Oh baby, set those alarms.

There’s nothing quite like committing yourself to sport so much that you can rightly alter your entire sleeping pattern just so you can be awake for tournament football.

It’s good practice with the NFL coming back next month too, but the perfect excuse for this period in your life needs to be that this only happens every four years.

Except they always forget that multiple tournaments take place every year – but conveniently at the same time, so by the time the next one comes out around, they’ll have forgotten.

And despite what they say, there is absolutely nothing insane about waking up before 6am on a Saturday morning to watch Switzerland and Spain.

Especially when there’s a game on at 9am when you’re meant to be making breakfast..

Switzerland v Spain

Over 3.5 Goals

Spain are a basket case. They went 3-0 up against Costa Rica inside thirty minutes and called it in. It should have been nine-nil.

They went 2-0 up against Zambia inside 13 minutes and piled on to ensure the same conversation wasn’t being had twice in a row.

Then, to cap it off, they lost 4-0 to Japan in the final group game because they are incapable of not taking risks off the ball.

Switzerland finessed their way through their group because that’s how you manage group stage football – their nature is to be aggressive.

This will wake you up.

Jenni Hermoso to Have Two Or More Shots on Target

Just to confirm, Jenni Hermoso has had six shots on target at this World Cup and only played twice. Everything they do finds her in central areas, and that’s generally when she’s about eight yards from goal with a defender in front of her still looking for the ghost run of Bonmati off the ball.

They are impossible to track, and Hermoso capitalises on this excellent. Switzerland sit back in low block when out of possession, but that’s what both Costa Rica and Zambia did, and well.

Irene Paredes to be Shown A Card

She’s a lunatic. When Spain lose the ball, it’s almost seen as a national insult.

And typically, when they do, they lash out to ensure they’re not being broken against. You might wonder why, in this case, Paredes hasn’t been booked if all I’m saying is true, but he’s committed five fouls. And it’s worth remembering that they’ve had about 95% of the ball in two of those games.

Japan v Norway

Japan to Win

They’re just so functional aren’t they? Norway are a typical fall team whereby we associate Scandinavian teams with being good because they’re from ‘that part of the world’, but Sweden and Denmark are considerably better sides than the Norwegians.

And their outball in Ada Hegerberg is sweating to be ready for this clash – and it looks like a race she might lose. If that’s the case, Japan will capitalise on the weak hold-up play in the final third and break like they did against Spain.

Ingrid Engen to Commit Two or More Fouls

My favourite irony of this Bet Builder is I’ve taken two Barcelona players to be the hatchet women. It’s so off-brand, but such is the nature of maintaining possession and launching overloads.

Developing a knack for this kind of thing at Wolfsburg, FCB brought in Engen two years ago when they needed someone in big games to ensure nobody got in behind when full backs went forward.

No team break more efficiently than Japan, so she’ll be called upon again here.
