France v Brazil
Women’s World Cup 2023, Group D
Brisbane, Saturday, 11am
BBC/STV/RTE2
Match Odds: Draw
After their disappointing draw against Jamaica in the opening round of fixtures, all the pressure in this heavyweight clash will be on the European side.
Coach Herve Renard could be forgiven for getting his usually crisp, white shirt creased in exasperation following that nil-nil stalemate, and changes look likely to his starting eleven.
However, the French head coach can’t afford to be too cavalier against the Brazilians, who smashed Panama 4-0 in their first game, Ary Borges netting a hat-trick.

The French could still lose and plot a route to the last 16 but a cautious approach seems the wiser course before they take on the Panamanians in their final group game and, hopefully, collect three points.
As such, a draw seems like in this evenly-balanced contest.
2.5 Goals: Under
While Brazil have made the South American championship their own in recent times – winning 4 consecutive Copa Americas ahead of this World Cup – they’ve not enjoyed the same success in the biggest tournament of them all.
Their record against France underlines this, with Les Bleues winning six and drawing four of the last ten meetings of these nations.
Given the stakes and their relative records, we’d be surprised to see a goal fest here and under 2.5 goals makes sense if you believe these two sides could be happy with a point apiece.
Kadidiatou Diani to Have 1+ Shots on Target
Despite drawing a blank in the first game, Kadidiatou Diani did look a threat throughout an was unlucky not to take one of multiple chances.
It’ll be tougher against a higher level opponent to find the same opportunities, but a shot on target is not too much to ask.
Ary Borges to Have 1+ Shots on Target
Brazil are spoilt for choice in attack, with Debinha and Bia Zaneretto both big threats, while Marta, playing in her sixth World Cup, is primed to come of the bench if needed.
However, the price on their hat-trick hero, Ary Borges, to manage one shot on target against France is too good to ignore given her display against Panama.
We’ll round off our Bet Builder with her troubling the keeper at around evens.
