- EH, PADDY – WHAT THE HELL IS A MULTI-MATCH BET BUILDER? LET US EXPLAIN RIGHT HERE!
It will surely be between Japan and Spain as regards who will get out of Group C. The winner of the group will likely not have to face favourites USA until the semi-finals while whoever comes second here will likely have to face the States in the quarterfinals. With Japan facing Zambia, who many believe are the weakest side at the tournament, in their opener, Spain will need to at least match them points-wise.
We’ve looked into the markets and found the four best value picks for a very healthy-looking Bet Builder.
Spain v Costa Rica
Women’s World Cup, Group C
Wellington Regional Stadium, Wellington, 8:30am
Over 5.5 Goals
Costa Rica certainly won’t want a repeat of the 7-0 humiliation their compatriots received from Spain in Qatar last winter but we might get close to it. They’re not coming into the tournament in great shape it must be said, they’ve won just one of their last 10 games and only scored three goals over their last five matches.
Spain have been scoring for fun over their last five games, netting a total of 25 goals in all, conceding just two. Costa Rica will be pegged back for most of the game here and Spain could really run riot. Spain are ranked sixth in the world, Costa Rica are 36th.
The Spaniards have scored four or more in three of their last five while the Costa Ricans have conceded at least four in two of their last five. Spain put seven and nine past Panama and Vietnam in the warm-up games, we reckon they’ll bag at least six here.
Over 8.5 Spain Corners
We should see plenty of corners here, Spain are going to have the lion’s share of possession and will be out for goals, particularly as they’re going to be wary that finishing top might come down to goal difference. If they can bag a few here and a few against Zambia they’ll be in the driving seat when they face Japan in the final group game.
We’re going to see loads of the ball in Spain’s final third of the pitch here, meaning plenty of attacks. The Costa Ricans will be forced to sit back and defend meaning the favourites should be able to get at least nine corners.

Spain -5
With the Spanish in such goal-scoring form against a side who have scored just four goals over their last seven fixtures you’d have to fancy them on the handicap market. The Spaniards have also kept eight clean sheets over their last 10 fixtures so you’d have to expect they’re going to be pretty solid at the back. Since we’re backing Spain to score six and they shouldn’t be conceding then taking them on the -5 Handicap definitely has some decent value.
Mariona Caldentey to Score 2 or More
Barcelonea’s Mariona Caldentey needs a mention here. While she only bagged six goals over 19 in the Primera Division this season it’s in cup competition where she excels. In the Champions League she scored four in eight and seven in her five appearances over World Cup qualification. Reports say she’ll start here and against such weak opposition she should be getting on the scoresheet at least twice.
