The Champions League is back…kind of. Actually, the preliminary qualification round began in late June but Tuesday night sees plenty of big names in action for the First Qualification round. Teams at this stage will have to make it through four stages before making the elusive Group Stage which begins on August 31st. Let’s find some value in the Tuesday night fixtures.

Shamrock Rovers v Breidablik

Tallaght Stadium, Dublin, 7:45
TV: RTE 2

Over 2.5 Goals
Shamrock Rovers come into this game as odds-on favourites with the market. The Dubliners have an advantage of having played more games this season, although the difference is only around 10 league games. The hosts are strong on home soil, losing just one of their last 11 games in Tallaght and of their last five have won four and lost one, scoring 11 and conceding just two.

Breidablik are third in the Icelandic league and have won two, drawn two (losing one on penalties) and lost one over their last five on the road. They’re good in front of goal though, scoring 19 goals over their last five away games and while Stephen Brady’s Hoops are strong defensively they might struggle to keep them scoreless here. With Rovers scoring 11 over their last five at home we should be looking at Over 2.5 Goals here.

FC Ballkani v Ludogorets

Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri, Pristina, 7:45pm

Both Teams to Score
Kosovo’s Ballkani haven’t played a competitive game since late May while Bulgaria’s Ludogorets haven’t played a game with something on the line since early June, they have played more friendlies however.

The hosts are strong on home turf, winning four of their last six, drawing the other two, scoring 15 goals in the process. Ludogorets are unbeaten over their last nine away games (not including friendlies) so won’t have any fear going into this. They’ve also been among the goals, scoring nine over their last five on the road. Both Teams to Score has plenty of value here.

Klaksvik v Ferencvaros

Vio Djupumyrar, Klaksvik, 7:45pm

Ferencvaros to Win & Both Teams to Score
Faroese champions Klaksvik Itrottarfelag are 16 games into their league season while Hungarian champions Ferencvaros haven’t kicked a ball in anger since late May. However, the away side are very short odds to do the business here. Their friendlies haven’t been the best, winning just two of their five played so far but the difference in quality against the Faroese side should be evident.

In competitive games, Ferencvaros have conceded in all but one of their last seven away games so you’d have to expect a fully fit home side to at least get one here. Saying that, the Hungarians have plenty of experience in their ranks and at this level of the competition so they should win without too much hassle.

Partizani Tirana v BATE Borisov

Air Albania Stadium, Tirana, 7:45pm

BATE Borisov to Win
Belarusian champions Bate Borisov should have the fitness advantage here, they’re 14 games into their league season while Partizani haven’t played since May. The Albanian champions haven’t even played any open friendlies to prepare for this game but they’re a decent outfit at home, winning all eight of their most recent fixtures, scoring at least two goals in seven of them.

BATE are very familiar with this stage of the competition, beating Piast Gliwice and Rosenborg last season and came close to a decent result at home against PSV as well. With them being mid-season and having that experience we’re taking BATE to Win here.
