England are heavy favourites to book their place in the Euro 2023 Under 21s final at the weekend as they head into their semi-final clash with Israel. Lee Carsley’s crew have already beaten the Israelis 2-0 in the group stages and everything’s suggesting we’ll see a repeat of that again on Wednesday.
England have been faultless, winning all four games so far without conceding a single goal. They dominated Israel 10 or so days ago and we can expect them to do so again this time around so England (-1) kicks us off.
Both Teams To Score? No
So we already know that England are yet to concede in the competition so far, scoring in every game themselves. But what of Israel’s attacking prowess? Well, there isn’t an awful lot to write home about to be honest.
They’ve scored two goals in four games and played out a 0-0 draw with Georgia in the quarter finals before triumphing on penalties to get here. Both Teams To Score? No has clicked in 100% of England’s games and 50% of Israel’s. This might be attritional, even by this England team’s standards, but they’ve proven a tough nut to crack so I’ll have Both Teams to Score? No.
Over 4.5 Cards
England haven’t been particularly badly behaved in this tournament, but we’ve all seen enough football to know that trends like that go out the window when there’s a spot in the final of any competition on the line. However, there were four cards in England’s 1-0 quarter final win over Portugal, including one for keeper James Trafford, so they are more than capable of some textbook s**thousery when required. And, for the record, there were three bookings when these two faced each other in the group stages.
Israel, on the other hand, love getting stuck in and have had a player sent off at Euro 2023 as well as amassing five cards by themselves last time out against Georgia and four against the Czech Republic. This one could get feisty so Over 4.5 Cards is well worth a go.
Emile Smith Rowe to Score Or Assist
England’s squad is packed full of regular Premier League performers and, while Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe might not have had his best season domestically, there’s no doubt he has bundles of talent. He’s showed up here when given a chance and put his class firmly on display with two goals already.
Despite this, he’s not actually been a regular starter with three substitute appearances to his name. However, if England get their customary early goal there’s a good chance he comes off the bench to finish Israel off late on. We’ll hedge out bets a bit and take Smith Rowe to Score Or Assist.
Anthony Gordon to Score Anytime
The man who got an early goal against Israel in the group match was Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon. He was the difference against Portugal, scoring the only goal of the game and taking himself on to two for the tournament along with Smith Rowe.
Gordon’s been rotated a bit throughout the tournament but he has started three of England’s four games. It’s well worth checking the team sheets here, especially with 90 minutes under the belt against the Portuguese last time out. But, if he gets the nod, Gordon to Score Anytime is a good bet.
