22- ACCA CRACKER - NEW CAP 1024

Please adopt a cheesy 90s teleshopping advertiser tone while reading this following paragraph:

Are you home alone on a Saturday night? The guys didn’t include you in their plans? Maybe your snacks are going stale, much like your entertainment options? Well, we’re here to save your bacon, buddy – it’s the MLS!

We look to the west, to our bountiful cousins who can quite easily boast semi-engaging sport at this hour of the night, and we will do our best to enhance that engagement by telling you just how you can spin a few quid quicker than Lionel Messi’s duplex leaser.

Philadelphia Union v Inter Miami

Philadelphia Union to Win To Nil

I like how this sounds like a savings bond facing a cross-city rail service. However, unlike the streets of Philadelphia, the Union are squeaky clean and recording shutouts left, right and centre.

In fact, only Cincinnati and Seattle have kept more clean sheets this season than Philly. That’s a huge leg up on an Inter Miami side who have failed to find the net in five of their nine road trips this season.

And while the haunting spectre of Lionel Messi seems like a quick fix for this unit, the fact he’s signing really just confirms the club’s aspirations as a PR agency rather than a functional football club.

Columbus Crew v Nashville SC

Hany Mukhtar to Score Anytime

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Mukhtar’s performances are that he’s doing this from midfield. So it’s not like the supporting balls into him are the highest quality, or he’s benefitting from an all-star cast feeding him high-xG opportunities.

He’s playing off the main striker and scoring en masse. Not only is he the top scorer in the MLS this season, he’s also scored twelve times in his last twelve games.

Now, I don’t know about your maths, so I’ll tell you – that’s a goal per game since April. The Crew have conceded multiple times in their last two home games as well, so something is amiss.

Sporting Kansas City v Chicago Fire

Sporting Kansas City to Win

For a team that are incredibly average, Kansas City maintain quite strong home form. I don’t know whether that’s down to opposing teams rolling into town and getting bloated from Arthur Bryant’s or simply because that weird shuttlecock in the centre of town confuses visiting sides enough to turn them incompetent – but they’ve taken thirteen points from their nine games.

Minus that trip to Portland to play a leaky home Timbers defence, the Fire are ehh.. well, the name suggests it. They went through an away stretch of five games in-a-row where they shipped two or more and that’s probably a more accurate reflection of where they’re tactically at on their travels. We’re backing the hosts.

LAFC v Vancouver Whitecaps

LAFC To Win

I’m not here to tell you all about LAFC’s spectacular home record – it’s middling. I won’t even come here with the tired mention of them being top of the Western Conference because the results in that half of the MLS are wild.

Instead, I will tell you how Vancouver are one of just three clubs yet to record an away win and have scored just six times in their seven games away from BC Place. This one has Home Win written all over it.
