Belgium U21 vs Netherlands U21
Lois Openda to score anytime
Lois Openda has emerged as the Belgian U21’s goalscorer-in-chief. The Lens forward finished as Belgium’s top finisher in qualifying, bagging seven in eight games – half of the goals that Belgium scored in the process. He also finished the season as Lens’ top scorer, bagging 21 goals in Ligue 1 as Lens finished second for the first time since 2002.
Openda scored 12 goals in Lens’ last 12 games of the season as they finished the season with 11 wins in 12. He will be one of the most closely monitored players competing in Georgia and Romania this summer and a move to a big European club is surely on the table. He is the most likely player to get on the scoresheet on Tuesday afternoon.
Under 2.5 goals
Both Belgium and the Netherlands were absolutely flawless defensively in qualifying, conceding just five goals between them. Belgium boast the best defensive record of all teams competing at the upcoming Euros, conceding two goals in eight qualifiers, while the Netherlands boast the second-best alongside Portugal, conceding three goals in ten games.
The Dutch kept six consecutive clean sheets at the end of their qualifying campaign, while Belgium kept clean sheets in all of their home games and half of their away games. Neither defence is likely to give too much away when the two sides face off and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a low-scoring opener.
Georgia U21 vs Portugal U21
Portugal (-1)
Co-hosts Georgia are unfortunate in the sense that they find themselves in a group with three of the strongest teams in qualifying. Portugal, the Netherlands, and Belgium all topped their groups without losing a game and it’s difficult to see Georgia finishing anywhere other than bottom of Group A.
It is also difficult to gauge the Georgian team’s level considering they haven’t played a competitive international in nearly two years, essentially changing teams in the process. Georgia have been improving steadily at U21 level in recent years, finishing third in each of their last two qualifying campaigns, albeit several points off a top two spot.
Portugal, on the other hand, were one of the most impressive teams in qualifying for this year’s tournament, dropping just two points in ten games. They also recorded a goal difference of +38 and it’s difficult to see anything but a comfortable win.

Ukraine U21 vs Croatia U21
Over 2.5 goals
Ukraine and Croatia both qualified for the Euros through the playoffs, and are likely playing off against one another for second place in Group B, with Spain favourites to take top spot in the group. Both sides scored an average of over two goals per game in qualifying, conceding an average of one goal per game, so there is every chance this meeting will see plenty of goals as well.
Ukraine prevailed in a high-scoring play-off, beating Slovakia 5-3 on aggregate, while Croatia beat Denmark on penalties after drawing 3-3 on aggregate. Both sides are clearly good going forward and somewhat questionable at the back, which should make for an exciting spectacle for the neutral.
