Champions League Final 2023
Saturday, June 10 – 8pm: Manchester City v Inter

TV: BT Sport 1

And so, to the biggest club game in European football. In what has been another masterclass of tactical exposition this season from Pep Guardiola and Manchester City, the favourites are looking to banish years of hurt and near-misses in the Champions League.

All the talk has been about the side housed in the east end of Manchester, with Inter Milan appearing to be a mere walk-on part to the coronation, but Italians are notoriously tough opponents and it may not be the goal fest some are expecting…

Over 3.5 Cards

Experienced official Szymon Marciniak is not one of the more card happy referees on the circuit, but he does average just under four cards in this season’s Champions League and dished out five in Manchester City’s home defeat of Real Madrid in the semi-final. This tally was only beaten in Man City’s other European games with Clement Turpin taking charge of their tie in Munich. Inter are not shy of a card either and sit just four away from earning 100 for the whole season, with 22 of them coming in the Champions League.

Bernado Silva to Commit 2 or More Fouls

The diminutive Portuguese player loves a tackle and for a player in his position, his average of one foul per game makes him a prime candidate for this selection. He displayed his fiery side when up against Luke Shaw in the FA Cup final and with Man City likely to be frustrated by Inter’s defensive play, it’s feasible to see Silva lose his cool and give away free kicks.

He averages 1.5 tackles in the Champions League too and with Inter likely to slow the game down this could rank as a solid leg at odds against.

Erling Haaland to Score or Assist

The Norwegian is way out ahead of the pack on 12 goals in the Champions League this season, and whilst his record of assists isn’t that stellar in Europe’s premier club competition, his creativity has seen some strong results domestically. Man City’s marksman has accrued eight assists in the Premier League and with him having a drought (by his remarkable standards) recently, this rates as a good way to get the Scandinavian onside.

Under 3.5 Goals

This is quite simple: Manchester City don’t concede many goals. Five in total in 12 games in the Champions League this season shows they’re mean at the back. When you factor in that one of these goals was in a dead rubber at home to Sevilla and another a ludicrous late penalty in Munich when they were pretty much assured of progression, the case gets even stronger.

Inter do have a threat up front so we’ll not risk adding Both Teams to Score, No here and go with the angle that Man City will have too much defensively for Inter to break down whilst not risking a late consolation at 2-0 spoiling the leg.
