Europa League Final – Puskas Arena, Budapest (Hungary)
Sevilla v Roma
Wednesday, May 31: 8pm

TV: BT Sports 1

Sevilla to Win

This year’s Europa League final is something of an unstoppable force against an immovable object. It is a game between a Roma side managed by Jose Mourinho, who has never lost a European final in his five attempts so far, and a Sevilla side that always seems capable of winning Europe’s secondary competition. Something has got to give.

Sevilla looked a shadow of themselves when they went two goals behind against Manchester United last month and were fortunate to still be in the tie when United imploded at the end of the first leg. Roma have been a typical Mourinho team en route to the final, recording just 28% possession in their second leg against Bayer Leverkusen as they clung onto a slender first leg advantage.

They also enjoyed just 23% possession in their second leg against Real Socieded earlier in the competition as they protected a first leg lead. Mourinho will likely employ similar tactics against Sevilla on Wednesday night in an attempt to frustrate the perennial Europa League winners.

However, his side will have to come out and have a go at some point, giving Sevilla an opportunity to hurt them. They have improved immensely since Jose Luis Mendilibar took charge in March, dumping United and Juventus out of the Europa League and rising steadily in La Liga. They have every chance of spoiling Mourinho’s party.

Youssef En-Nesyri to Score Anytime

Youssel En-Nesyri is the main reason that Sevilla find themselves in a Europa League final once again despite enduring an awful domestic season. The Moroccan striker, whose header against Portugal sent his country to the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, has scored four of Sevilla’s 13 goals in the Europa League this season, scoring twice against United in Seville and their solitary goal in a 1-1 draw at Juventus in the semi-finals.

It was also his wayward header that deflected off Harry Maguire for Sevilla’s equaliser in Manchester. En Nesyri has proved that he is a big-game player and has scored almost treble the number of goals as any other Sevilla player this season.

He is the most likely player to find the back of the net at the Puskas Arena if Sevilla do win their seventh Europa League title.

Roma to Receive Over 2.5 Cards

Roma have received a minimum of three yellow cards in four of their last five Europa League games, employing every trick in the book as they sh*thoused their way to a European final. They are likely to employ similar tactics against Sevilla on Wednesday night in an effort to frustrate the Spanish side.

Los Rojiblancos are no angels themselves, receiving a total of 13 cards in their four games against Manchester United and Juventus. They also seem to have a knack for drawing yellow cards, with United and Juventus picking up three yellow cards in each of the four games.

This should be a feisty encounter and it would be surprising if English ref Anthony Taylor keeps his cards in his pocket. There is a good chance that Mourinho’s side will pick up a minimum of three cards.

Over 5.5 Sevilla Corners

Sevilla have won a significant number of corners in their run to the Europa League final, winning an astonishing 18 corners in their extra-time victory over Juventus last time out. They also won eight in the home win over Manchester United, winning 14 in the two legs against the English side.

Roma, on the other hand, have conceded an average of over five corners per game in the latter stages of the competition, hardly surprising considering they tend to forego possession and territory to prevent any chance of an opposition comeback.

Sevilla will almost certainly enjoy the lion’s share of possession and territory on Wednesday night and are good value to win six or more corners.
