Championship play-off final: Coventry City v Luton Town
Saturday, May 27- 4:45pm
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football
Luton to Lift the Trophy
It’s time for the richest game in football as Coventry City take on Luton Town in the Championship play-off final, with an elusive spot in the Premier League up for grabs. The previous two clashes between these sides this season both ended in the points being shared as the Hatters extended their unbeaten run against Coventry to nine games.
Luton also boast an impressive defensive record, with only Vincent Kompany’s Burnley side conceding fewer goals in the Championship all season. The Sky Blues will prove a stern test for Rob Edward’s team, but the Hatters finished ten points ahead of them in the league standings and should edge this one on Wembley’s famous turf – it just might take longer than the 90 minutes.
Viktor Gyokeres to Have One or More Shots on Target
Viktor Gyokeres has been one of Coventry’s standout performers throughout this Championship campaign. The powerful striker is by far the main goal threat for Mark Robins side, with the Swede notching up 21 goals for the Sky Blues throughout the season, second only to Middlesborough’s star striker Chuba Akpom.
Gyokeres has already scored against Luton this season and in a match where big players must step up to the mark, Cov will lean on ex-Brighton frontman Gykores to lead them from the front.

Marvelous Nakamba to Commit Two or More Fouls
Aston Villa loanee Marvelous Nakamba has played a crucial role since coming into the Luton squad this year. The midfielder is critical to winning the ball back for his side, who look to control games, and the Zimbabwe international has made more tackles than any other Championship player since his Hatters debut in February.
In their semi-final against Sunderland, Nakamba committed two fouls in each of the games and will look to get stuck in once again to reduce the influence of Gustavo Hamer and Ben Sheaf in a technical Sky Blues midfield.
Over 9.5 Corners
With both sides in desperate search of a winning goal through any means possible, corner kicks could play a pivotal role. In the previous two clashes between the sides this season, each match ended with a total of ten corners being taken.
Across the two play-off games that Luton played against Sunderland, there were 20 corners, and this was the exact same statistic for Coventry in their clashes with Middlesborough across the two legs. With both sets of fans roaring their sides forward at Wembley, I’m expecting plenty of corners in what promises to be an entertaining encounter.
