We’re in Italy on Monday night to check out the two Serie A games on show, with the action getting underway in Rome as Roma host Salernitana.
Roma are seventh in the league and their form has dipped recently, with Jose Mourinho’s men instead focusing on the Europa League rather than finishing in the top four to secure Champions League football. They booked their place in the final after beating Bayer Leverkusen over two legs in the semi-final this week.
Mourinho’s side are winless in their last five in Serie A and the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss will likely make changes to his line up with the Europa League in mind.
Despite those changes and their dip in form, Roma should have enough to get the better of 15th-placed Salernitana, who have won one of their last four and have nothing to play for.
Under 2.5 Goals
We’re siding with Roma to win, however, we’re not expecting goals.
There have been under three goals in Roma’s last four Serie A matches and Mourinho’s men come into this on the back of their 0-0 draw at Bologna. Their league matches this season have averaged 2.2 goals and we’re expecting more of the same on Monday night.
Roma have the fourth-best defence in the league and with Salernitana knowing there’s nothing on the line, we’re expecting a quiet game in Rome.
We’re heading from Rome to near Florence now as Juventus travel to Empoli on Monday evening.
Juventus have won their last three in the league to find themselves second and four points above Lazio in fourth. They’ll be keen to secure another victory to all-but confirm their spot in the Champions League next season.
Empoli are unbeaten in their last three (won two, drawn one), however, they’re 14th in Serie A with nothing to play for, so backing an away win makes plenty of sense.
Under 2.5 Goals
Similar to the Roma game, we’re not expecting many chances and goals. There have been under three goals in four of Juventus’ last five Serie A games and that trend should continue.
Juventus’ league games this season have averaged 2.3 goals, while Empoli’s tally is 2.2 goals. Under 2.5 Goals is a smart selection.
