22- ACCA CRACKER - NEW CAP 1024

Dear diary, this week on League of Ireland crises, we return with the latest in earth-shattering uproar. Cork City blew a one-goal lead in seven-minute injury time to Dundalk, their long-time title rivals in their not-so-distant heyday and saw their captain sent off for no reason whatsoever, before seeing their can’t-lose appeal rejected.

Now Damien Duff has come out declaring English clubs’ superiority complex over their Irish counterparts to be disgusting – the same Damien Duff who was part of the first billionaire-centered spending frenzy in the Premier League under Jose Mourinho.

St. Pat’s are playing very well, but perhaps a bit too well because nobody at the club wants their caretaker boss to be permanently installed. Rovers are winning but leaking to goals to a managerless side while the country remains sceptical about their chances in Europe due to defensive issues seems ill-timed.

Derry City have banned children from their games too, by the way. All of this while the early-season wonders of Bohs, Sligo and Drogheda have all lost multiple games on the bounce. Is anyone happy at all? You might be after we land a bucketload of cash from this League of Ireland Bet Builder.

Cork City v Sligo Rovers – Both Teams to Score

Well we know Cork will concede, primarily because they’re rubbish but also because they’re now without their captain and standout centre half Cian Coleman.

And what gives me the remote optimism about City finding the net? Well, Sligo’s inability to stop them. I loved what John Russell was installing early doors, but it does kind of feel like a Liam Buckley-focused style of play whereby you’ll either look like world beaters or like you’d lose to a group of your own fathers in a five-a-side.

Sligo Rovers have kept one clean sheet all season, and it was to St. Pat’s during their emo phase. Let’s have Both Teams To Score.

Derry City v UCD – Derry City to win to Nil

After what was admittedly a slow start at home, it seems that the Candystripes have finally put an end to that woeful run in front of their own fans. It wasn’t remotely sustainable no matter what the regulars to the ground would swear by, but thankfully they’re starting to resemble somewhat of a force on home turf, with only Shamrock Rovers finding the net in their last three contests there.

UCD won’t even exert themselves after they go a goal down. Derry City to win to Nil keeps us rolling along.

Dundalk v Bohemians – Over 2.5 Goals

Catching Bohemians coming off the back of two bad results is a tasty sight for a team who’ve just won a game in the dying embers because the momentum is completely on their side.

They’re understanding that their best approach may well be to just fire balls into the box and have Pat Hoban get on the end of them, while Bohemians’ defensive approach is seeing their impossible-to-maintain run of requiring golazos coming up dry.

A change in approach should be required for Declan Devine as he eyes up a team who needed a red card and stoppage time goals to beat the worst team in the division. Chaos ensues. Over 2.5 Goals.

Shelbourne v St. Pat’s – Shels to Win

This feels brave given St. Pat’s look back to their best, but they attack with such openness that Damien Duff’s relentless transition machine should be able to capitalise.

I’ve spoken multiple times about how an over-reliance on Jack Moylan isn’t a great idea but he’s only gone and netted a hat-trick last week so confidence is surely at an all-time high. Shels’ last defeat came in the month of March, I’ll have you remember and I’ll take the hosts to Win.
