Man City v Real Madrid

Wednesday, 8pm, Live on BT Sport 1

The City Real Madrid game had so much quality last week – I covered the Milan derby last week for BT and the contrast between the two games was chalk and cheese.

You just couldn’ t take your eyes off the first leg of this. It was two teams you just thought were at peak, elite level.

When Madrid scored after City dominated the first half an hour you were thinking “oh, here we go again.”

It’d be easy for heads to drop when that happens and think it’s going to be the same old story.

But Kevin De Bruyne put them right back in it with his goa – and what a strike it was. It was the kind of thing Steven Gerrard used to do for Liverpool – and hit as hard and cleanly too.

He’ll be right in the middle of the action here too and should get a shot on target at least.

You need players like him to step up against Madrid with their pedigree in the competition and the know-how for the final stages of it.

City are a different beast this year for sure. They haven’t got it it done in the Euroep despite their Premier LEague successes, but they’ve looked likelier to get over the hump this year than any other.

But I’m done with writing off Madrid any more in these big games because they come back to bite you on the a*se usually.

They are ruthless killers in this competition.

City might dominate the game, the ball, the chances, but I fancy Madrid will just find a way past them again.

It’ll be a tight game though and I wouldn’t rule out extra time and penalties. There should be goals too, and both teams should get on the scoresheet.

Vinicius for Madrid has turned into one of the best players in the world

He’s so dynamic. Kyle Walker did pretty well against him in the first leg and he still managed to get that goal.

I don’t think anyone can contain him entirely for 90 minutes and he’ll be a huge threat on Wednesday night again.

It got a bit feisty between Dani Carvajal and Jack Grealish in the first leg. I hop Jack doesn’t get taken in in this game and react to the Madrid full-back winding him him up. He was sh*thousing him all game, basically, and will probably try to do the same in the second leg.

And there’s a lot more at stake now in the second leg. I can definitely see it getting a lot spicier, especially if either side is losing. There are huge battles all over the pitch in a game like this and Rodri will be important in the midfield for City.
