Real Madrid v Man City

Things got a little bit nervy for Man City against Leeds at the weekend but they were comfortable up to the goal. Everyone just gets jumpy because it’s that time of the season.
I don’t think it’ll be in their heads ahead of this. They should be full of confidence from their recent performances. But I do worry about them – because it’s Real Madrid.
If you asked 90 per cent of people, certainly in England, they’d say City are on fire and they’ll go through. However, there’s something about Real Madrid in the Champions League. Their history in the competition is just about getting the job done. Look at their run last year, they beat Chelsea, who were defending Champions, PSG, City and Liverpool. It couldn’t have been much tougher. They can do it over two legs.
There is that tie (against City) from last year too. The way it turned around in injury time, that’ll be in their heads. With Madrid, the players they have, the experience, Carlo Ancelotti in charge, I always saw them as the biggest hurdle for City to overcome. I fancied this as a final.
Both Teams to Score
I can see the first leg being cagey. Madrid will get a goal at least in the Etihad in the second leg, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this finished as a score draw.
Erling Haaland to Score Anytime
City will hope Erling Haaland can be the difference from last year’s tie, and if City are going to score in the Bernabeu. he’s the likeliest to do it.
Kevin De Bruyne To Have 1 or More Shots on Target
Kevin De Bruyne will be pulling the strings in the midfield for City and setting up Haaland, but he also carries a threat from range too and could get an effort on target.
Vinicius Junior To Have 1 or More Shots on Target
I saw Vinicius at Anfield this year and at times he is unplayable. Obviously they have Benzema, but Vini Jr on the wing is the real danger to me and it’d be a surprise if he doesn’t have at least one shot on target.
Rodri to Commit 2 or More Fouls
This is the first leg of the tie and not many players will want to take too many chances of getting suspended, so I don’t think there’ll be a lot of tackles flying around – that’ll come in the second leg – but Rodri might be forced to make a few tactical fouls during the game when Madrid press forward on the break.
