HAVEN’T A CLUE WHAT A BET BUILDER IS? WELL, LET OUR HANDY WHAT IS A BET BUILDER? GUIDE REVEAL ALL
Saturday 5:30pm: Liverpool v Brentford TV:Sky Sport Main Event/Premier League
If Liverpool are to have any chance of a top four finish (and Paddy doesn’t give them much of a prayer) then they simply must win every remaining game. A victory here would draw them to within three points of Newcastle and Manchester United ahead of their tricky away matches this weekend.
This will be tough though. Brentford won at Manchester City, drew at Arsenal and brushed Liverpool aside easily enough in the reverse fixture in January. While they don’t have too much to play for, they’d love to complete the double over Jurgen Klopp’s boys.
Liverpool to Win
The Reds did win the corresponding fixture 3-0 last season, though, and they did that without their two best forwards who were away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Even with Mohamed Salah, they’ve rarely looked a shadow of their 2021/22 quadruple-chasing selves this term. But their main issues have been on the road. Liverpool have only lost once at Anfield this season, to Jesse Marsch’s Leeds. It’s been a really long season, hasn’t it?
That blip aside, the Reds have won eight and drawn two of their home games against sides currently below Brentford in the table. Under the Saturday night lights, they will pick up another three points in their futile quest for a Champions League spot.
Liverpool To Have 6 Or More Shots On Target
A big reason as to why Liverpool should win is that they can expect to keep David Raya very busy indeed. Brentford have conceded at least five shots on target in 21 Premier League matches this season, more than any other team, and only Nottingham Forest have allowed six-or-more more frequently.
With the Reds joint-top of the chart for having over five themselves, it’s safe to assume they should have at least six on Saturday evening (especially as they had 13 in this game last term).
Mohamed Salah will likely have some of those shots on target. He’s only had two games at Anfield this season in which he didn’t have any, after all.
Assuming he does find the target, he looks likely to score. Salah has netted in his last eight home games in all competitions, and although that run will end eventually, he should be safe for another goal at some point here.
Over 2.5 Goals
There’s a decent chance Brentford will score too. They are third in the Premier League for both set piece and counter attack goals this season – the latter has been a big problem for the Reds, while Thomas Frank’s side hurt them with the former when last they met.
A goal for the Bees will also increase the likelihood of their being at least three in total. Liverpool might have only won 1-0 against Fulham in midweek but their home games have averaged 3.5 goals in 2022/23, so a bet on over 2.5 goals is a sensible addition to your Bet Builder.
Over 10.5 Corners
These teams both average a shade under 10 corners per game, and indeed there were nine in this fixture last season.
However, as well as being third in the league for certain types of goals, Brentford hold that status for the number of away games that have featured at least 11 corners. They block a lot of shots and crosses (which contributes to this) while also looking to profit from set plays themselves. We should see over 10.5 corners in this one.
Over 3.5 Cards
Anthony Taylor used to arguably be Liverpool’s least favourite referee, a role now emphatically taken by Paul Tierney. If it’s not one bald bloke from near Manchester, it’s another.
Taylor will be in charge at Anfield on Saturday and will arrive having averaged 3.8 bookings per Premier League game in 2022/23. There were four yellow cards when these teams last played and as two sides who counter attack well and draw fouls as a result, there’s ample reason to think there will be over 3.5 cards.
