So, with the weekend hurling towards us once again there’s no time to waste and it’s only right that we bring in our resident tipster and Premier League predicting guru, Mark Lawrenson. He’s in blistering form so sit up and take note, here’s Lawro’s predictions this weekend.
Saturday 12.30pm: Crystal Palace v West Ham
TV: BT Sport
West Ham were unlucky not to get a penalty against Liverpool on Wednesday. Crystal Palace lost to Wolves. I’m going to go for a draw. Wolves are slowly climbing away from the drop zone and West Ham have had a decent run. Crystal Palace 1-1 West Ham.
Saturday 3pm: Brentford v Nottingham Forest
It was excellent wins for both during the week, although Chelsea are all over the place. That was the first time Nottingham Forest had won for a long time thanks to their second-half performance against Brighton. I just think Brentford are such a strong team and they’re hard to cope with at home. Brentford 2-1 Nottingham Forest.
Saturday 3pm: Brighton v Wolves
I predicted Brighton to lose to Forest and they did. I think, always, off the back of an FA Cup semi final and things like that, it’s not just the efforts it’s the mental side of it as well. It does affect you. Wolves are going okay, they don’t look like they’re going to get sucked in to the relegation battle. Brighton 1-1 Wolves.
Sunday 2pm: Bournemouth v Leeds
I watched Leeds in midweek and they’re still completely scatty. I’ll go for Leeds to win this. They should have won the other night, Patrick Bamford should have scored and it would have been deserved. Bournemouth 1-2 Leeds.
Sunday 2pm: Fulham v Manchester City
TV: Sky Sports
Fulham will give Manchester City a good game. The thing about playing at Craven Cottage is that you do feel hemmed in but, the way that Man City are at the moment, they’re just outstanding. Fulham 0-2 Manchester City.
Sunday 2pm: Manchester United v Aston Villa
I’m going to go for Manchester United to win this. Aston Villa are right up there. They’ve done so well. Manchester United 2-0 Aston Villa.
Sunday 2pm: Newcastle v Southampton
I’ll go for Newcastle, they’ve got the bit between their teeth. They had a little set back and they’re back on it again. They will just keep pushing until the end of the season and the goals are coming from all over the place at the moment. That Tottenham result was outstanding. Newcastle 2-0 Southampton.
Sunday 4.30pm: Liverpool v Tottenham
TV: Sky Sports
Liverpool, at the moment, have won three on the bounce, even though they’re conceding goals which is slightly worrying. I’m going to go for a fourth consecutive win. Liverpool 2-0 Tottenham.
Monday 8pm: Leicester v Everton
TV: Sky Sports
I thought Leicester were really clever the other night against Leeds in how they used Jamie Vardy. They brought him in with about 20 minutes left when Leeds were tiring because of their enormous work rate. To be quite honest with you, Leicester could have won that quite comfortably and they were the better team. Everton are difficult to beat but just don’t look like scoring. Leicester 2-1 Everton.
Tuesday 8pm: Arsenal v Chelsea
TV: Sky Sports
Chelsea are a shambles. I know everyone’s saying that they’ve lost every game under Frank Lampard but this goes back ages. I’ll go for Arsenal to win and I’m sure there’ll be a bounce back after that loss to City. But, Chelsea, their season’s basically become woeful. There just doesn’t seem to be a plan. Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea.
LAWRO V PUNTER CHALLENGE
So, you’ve heard what Mark Lawrenson has to say, but can this week’s Paddy Power punter take down our game-guessing guru with their Premier League predictions?
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, where have you been? Every Premier League gameweek we’re putting up at least £/€50 – more if there’s a rollover – to anyone who can outsmart Lawro in guessing the outcome of that week’s games. All the rules are here, but in a nutshell it’s three points for a correct score, and one point for a correct result. Simples.
There’s £/€50 up for grabs this weekend after Lawro took a midweek shoeing from Michael in Glengormley, Co. Antrim, a correct score call of 1-0 to Bournemouth over Southampton on Thursday night putting a cap on a comprehensive 8-4 victory for the challenger.
This week, Ian, a Man United supporter – so naturally he’s from Kilbeggan in the middle of Ireland – takes on Mystic Mark in a battle to the dea… oh wait, wrong script, in our predictions game!
Here are his correct score calls…
Crystal Palace 1-2 West Ham
Brentford 3-1 Nottingham Forest
Brighton 2-1 Wolves
Bournemouth 1-0 Leeds
Fulham 0-4 Man City
Man United 2-1 Aston Villa
Newcastle 3-0 Southampton
Liverpool 2-2 Spurs
Leicester 2-0 Everton
Arsenal 3-1 Chelsea
Yes, the Premier League weekend now stretches to Tuesday. Good luck!
