Manchester United to Win
Is there such thing as a new interim manager bounce? Tottenham will certainly hope so. It is hard to think of something more Spursy than sacking an interim manager who was due to depart at the end of the season anyway.
Spurs have been absolutely awful in recent weeks, taking just five points from their last available 15, culminating in that horror show in the opening 20 minutes against Newcastle on Sunday. Spurs and new interim manager Ryan Mason will be looking for a reaction on Thursday, but that kind of defeat can do damage psychologically.
Manchester United, on the other hand, will surely be in buoyant mood after their penalty shootout win over Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday. United were not brilliant in that goalless draw but responded well to a truly awful performance against Sevilla last Thursday and appear to have gotten their season back on track.
Erik Ten Hag’s side will take a giant stride towards Champions League qualification with a win at Tottenham on Thursday and are more than capable of doing so, even if their away record against the top sides is questionable. Manchester United to Win kicks us off.
Over 4.5 Cards
Spurs and United have not been the best-disciplined sides in the league this season. Spurs are currently third from bottom in the league’s disciplinary table, collecting 64 yellow cards and three red cards in 32 games this season.
United are only slightly better off, picking up 63 yellow cards and two red cards in 30 games. Both sides possess so many players capable of making their way into the referee’s notebook and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a flurry of cards on Thursday.
Anthony Taylor, who will take charge of Thursday’s game, has handed out an average of four cards per game this season and is likely to be a bit busier than usual. Over 4.5 Cards is next.
Casemiro is partly responsible for United’s disciplinary record being so poor this season. The Brazilian midfielder has undoubtedly been a good signing, but he has missed eight games through suspension in 2023 alone and has picked up 11 yellow cards and two red cards in 42 Manchester United appearances.
Casemiro averages 1.8 fouls per game in the league this season – the fourth-highest rate in the division – and is likely to be drawn into several fouls while playing away from home. Casemiro to make 2 or More Fouls looks a good bet.
Harry Kane to Have 2 or More Shots on Target
It is scary to imagine how bad Tottenham’s season would be if they didn’t have Harry Kane. The English forward is enjoying a remarkable season, scoring 24 goals in 32 league outings and would almost certainly be on his way to another Golden Boot if Erling Haaland hadn’t moved to Manchester City and decided to post freakish numbers.
Kane is among the most shot-happy players in the Premier League, averaging 3.6 shots per league game. Only Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic boasts a higher average than Kane. United face a fairly high average of 12.7 shots per game, which rises significantly when they play away from home, making Kane good value to test David De Gea at least twice.
