With just two games to go, including this one, Blackpool simply must win this game if they’re to have any hope of remaining in the Championship next season. Millwall are just outside the playoff positions, on goal difference, and will be confident of taking the three points in facing the league’s second-worst team. We’re found four value picks for Friday night’s Championship clash so let’s get into it. 

Both Teams to Score

Blackpool have been scoring an average of 1.18 goals per home Championship game while the Lions have netted just shy of a goal on their league travels at 0.91. The hosts have scored nine over their last five at home too so should be good for at least one. The visitors have been a little goalshy of late on their league travels, scoring four over their last five but that Playoff carrot dangling in front of them will mean they have to go for broke here and go after the three points. 

Jerry Yates to Score or Assist

Blackpool’s leading goalscorer missed last weekend’s 0-1 victory away to Birmingham and had been playing through the pain barrier for a couple of games prior. We’re hearing he should be back here and with it all on the line, caretaker boss Stephen Dobbie certainly needs his goal-scoring instincts. 

Yates has 13 goals over the Championship this season and has provided four as well and should he start he’ll be leading the line here. We fully expect the home crowd to be up for this and we’re liking the odds for Yakes to either score or set one up for a teammate, particularly as he has three over his last five at Bloomfield Road.

Jake Cooper to be Shown a Card

Millwall central defender Jake Cooper is their main offender when it comes to collecting cards this season for the away side. At the heart of their defence he’s picked up 11 so far this season. He’ll be charged with trying to keep either Yates, Morgen Rogers or Ian Poveda-Ocampo quiet, who will all be desperate to get on the scoresheet in an attempt to keep the hosts fighting for survival. We can certainly see him bringing someone to ground over the 90 and getting a booking. 

Millwall to Receive the Most Cards

Over their last five home Championship games, the hosts have only collected five bookings and received fewer cards than their opponents in four of those five fixtures. The Lions have picked up eight over their last five on the road in the league and have received more cards than their opponents in four of those five games. Hard not to see that trend continuing with so much on the line here.
