The old term ‘it’s a season of two halves’ could not be more true for this encounter. It seems a long time ago that Aston Villa were in a relegation battle under Steven Gerrard and Brentford were thumping Manchester United 4-0.

Brentford are winless in their last five league games while Villa are unbeaten in their last eight. The Bees will be desperate for a win and will try everything to put a smile back on the home support’s faces while their visitors will look to continue the rich vein of form that’s got them dreaming of Europe.

Brentford hold the edge in the head to head having won all four league games between the pair in west London since the turn of the Millennium. Having said that, I simply can’t see that form carrying on. It’s also worth noting that Villa’s only away defeat since the start of November came at the expense of the reigning champions Manchester City. On to the bets!

Ollie Watkins To Score or Assist

Ollie Watkins is the in-form player in the Premier League at the moment and he has the joint-most goal involvements since Unai Emery was appointed Aston Villa Head Coach. You can guess who he shares the total of 16 with, that’s right, a certain Erling Haaland.

Brentford have been leaking goals and plenty at that of late and Watkins will be looking to extend his good run and really force his way into the England reckoning at the expense of the Bees.

Watkins to Score or Assist at the going price looks a good leg to include in our Bet Builder for Saturday’s 3pm kick-off.

John McGinn to Have 2 or More Shots

Another player who is thriving under Unai Emery is John McGinn. He has been resurgent of late and is starting to pop up in more attacking positions than you would have seen early on in the season under Gerrard.

McGinn isn’t afraid to have a pop and takes plenty of shots from outside the box. He’ll fancy at least testing Bees keeper David Raya who looks to have one eye on a summer move, although his recent performances will not have helped his chances. Against a team conceding for fun of late, the Scot will back himself so McGinn to Have 2 or More Shots is a good price.

Douglas Luiz to Commit 2 or More Fouls

Both teams have a feisty, packed midfield and in the battle for supremacy in the middle of the park, we are likely to see plenty of strong tackles and fouls being drawn by both sets of teams. For this reason the ever-present Douglas Luiz looks a cracking bet to commit 2 or More Fouls.

He is a player who gives his all every minute of the game and doesn’t hold back in the challenge. He would also be attractive in the To Be Carded market. It is worth noting, however, that he has tidied up his act of late and only has two yellows in his last 10 league games so we’ll go with the fouls angle.

Aston Villa Win/Draw Double Chance

My eyes nearly jumped out of my head when I saw the prices for this match. I made Villa favourites myself but was shocked to see them as big underdogs. Brentford cannot buy a win at present and Villa just do not look like losing at the moment.

They are playing with huge confidence and Unai Emery has done a sensational job so far as head coach. Villa Win/Draw is worth taking in the Double Chance market meaning we’re on anything other than a Brentford win, a result I just cannot see happening.
