I was hearing an awful lot of chatter about Shamrock Rovers running away with a league title about ten weeks ago. About five weeks ago, I heard people writing them off and crowning Derry City as champions because Bohs couldn’t last the pace.
The same people then announced Rovers as ‘back’ when they beat Bohs, citing a Derry v Rovers title race. They then, three days later, claimed they might have been wrong about Bohs when they went to Derry and won one-nil.
A word of advice to everyone – sit back and relax – just enjoy this madcap league and all that comes with it. Friday night’s fixtures really do whet the appetite, so I’ve got a tasty little Treble for all of you LOI heads among us.
Bohemians v St Pat’s – Pat’s and the Draw
Alongside Shamrock Rovers, Pat’s have seen the most improvement across the last four weeks – a total contrast to their shaky start.
A lot of that is down to the lack of overly-patient build-up, and while they’ll be sweating on the fitness of Joe Redmond, it’s clear to me that the form of Jay McClelland, Chris Forrester and Eoin Doyle should be enough to eek out a result in what should be a hotly-contested Dublin derby.
Shamrock Rovers v Shelbourne – Rovers to Win
The Ringsend Derby is often one that gets overlooked in the calendar, but Damien Duff returning to Tallaght makes for a nice and spicy affair nonetheless.
Shels have improved drastically, but they’re just lacking experience in key areas, and with Duff clearly still taking inspiration from Jose Mourinho with his counter-attacking prowess, don’t be stunned to see them carve out plenty of chances.
However, they’re just not good enough to contend with the best side in the league in a wide open pitch and the hosts should be winning by two goals here.

UCD v Cork City – Cork City to Win
This leg makes me slightly nervous because when Cork City need to attack a game, they look slightly vulnerable.
But UCD’s first series of games have left them high and dry and really struggling to gain any form of inspiration bar a weird display against Shelbourne that earned them a point.
They may well have given in already so I’d be content with backing any away side at the Bowl to get three points when they’re available at this price.
