Premier League Predictions: Lawro senses Man Utd win and Newcastle draw

Lawro's looking for his 5th win on the bounce.

Fancy a few midweek Premier League games? Course you do. We’ve got a crisis-club derby on Tuesday night as Liverpool head to newly-managerless Chelsea. There’s also a classic clash in the shape of Leeds v Nottingham Forest and Leicester start life without Brendan Rodgers at home to the in-form Aston Villa.

On Wednesday we’ve got a couple of games to get stuck in to with Manchester United hosting Brentford and West Ham welcoming Newcastle to the London Stadium.

So, with the midweek games hurling towards us there’s no time to waste and it’s only right that we bring in our resident tipster and Premier League predicting guru, Mark Lawrenson. He’s in blistering form so sit up and take note, here’s Lawro’s predictions this weekend.

Tuesday 7.45pm: Bournemouth v Brighton

Bournemouth came from behind to win at the weekend and, going forward, they are dangerous. They’ve got lots of pace. Brighton have have had a good run and fought back to draw 3-3 with a last minute penalty against Brentford. But, you know what, I think this will be another score draw. Both will probably take that. Bournemouth 1-1 Brighton.

RESULT: Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton.

Tuesday 7.45pm: Leeds v Nottingham Forest

Leeds had a free hit at Arsenal because the world and his wife knew that they were going to lose that. Nottingham Forest, they drew 1-1 and they haven’t won for a while. The owner was in the changing room after the game and that’s never a good sign. If Forest get turned over at Leeds, which I think they will do, we could be up to 14 sackings for the season in the Premier League. Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest.

RESULT: Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest.

Tuesday 7.45pm: Leicester v Aston Villa

Villa are in good form, Leicester could get a bit of a bounce back from changing the manager. A difference voice in the dressing room can have a big impact. I think it might be another draw here. Villa won’t give much away and I think Leicester might be a bit better. Leicester 1-1 Aston Villa.

RESULT: Leicester 1-2 Aston Villa.

Tuesday 8pm: Chelsea v Liverpool

TV: Sky Sports

Where do you start with Liverpool? If they’ve got any chance of making the top four they’ve got to go to Chelsea and Win. Bruno’s going to be in charge of Chelsea and that will bring a reaction but they’re not great in front of goal. I think Liverpool might have too much for them. I know Jurgen Klopp had them in on Sunday morning and read them whatever the German equivalent of the Riot Act is. Chelsea 0-2 Liverpool.

RESULT: Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool.

Wednesday 8pm: Manchester United v Brentford

TV: Sky Sports

I thought Newcastle would beat Manchester United at the weekend and they did. You look at Man Utd and they were just getting by, and I mean that by decisions going for them and the teams they were playing, they were nicking games. They need to get back on track and Erik ten Hag will shuffle the pack. Brentford are outstanding but going to Old Trafford is hard. Manchester United 2-0 Brentford.

RESULT: Man Utd 1-0 Brentford

Wednesday 8pm: West Ham v Newcastle

West Ham got a big win at the weekend. It wasn’t brilliant but all you can do in that position is win. Newcastle were very good against Manchester United and thoroughly deserved the win. It looks like they’re back to their clean-sheet best which is the basis for that. West Ham don’t normally lose too many at home in the league, though. West Ham 1-1 Newcastle.

RESULT: West Ham 1-5 Newcastle

LAWRO V PUNTER CHALLENGE

So, you’ve heard what Mark Lawrenson has to say, but can this week’s Paddy Power punter take down our game-guessing guru with their Premier League predictions?

If you don’t know what we’re talking about, where have you been? Every Premier League gameweek we’re putting up at least £/€50 – more if there’s a rollover – to anyone who can outsmart Lawro in guessing the outcome of that week’s games. All the rules are here, but in a nutshell it’s three points for a correct score, and one point for a correct result. Simples.

There’s £/€250 up for grabs this week as Lawro saw off our good friend Elliot the Manchester City fan from Manchester in comprehensive style before the international break.  Next in the firing line is Ricky the Boro fan from Middlesbrough and here’s his verdict. It’s going to be a close one this midweek so strap yourselves in for another rollercoaster edition of Lawro’s Premier League Predictions.

Bournemouth 1-1 Brighton

Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest

Leicester 1-1 Aston Villa

Chelsea 1-2 Liverpool

Manchester United 2-1 Brentford

West Ham 1-2 Newcastle

RESULTS

It was all to play for heading into Wednesday’s games with Lawro and Ricky tied on three points each with both guessing Leeds 2-1 Nottingham. They both correctly predicted Man Utd’s win over Brentford, but neither got the full three points for the score line.

So, it all came down to West Ham v Newcastle, and the Toon’s win game Ricky a point with Lawro backing the draw. That means Ricky is our winner and £/€250 is heading his way.
