HAVEN’T A CLUE WHAT A BET BUILDER IS? WELL, LET OUR HANDY WHAT IS A BET BUILDER? GUIDE REVEAL ALL
With the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand looming on the horizon, this is a fine chance for England to lay down a marker. Yes, Brazil have an aura about them, and did indeed win the Copa America – but it’s worth noting how they fared in recent outings against World Cup-qualified opposition.
They were beaten by both the USA and Canada in the SheBelieves Cup. And while this matchup carries more prestige and you’d expect them to be sharper, I’m not convinced that Wembley is the place to cover over your recent shortcomings.
This should be a real belter, so buckle up for the ehh *checks notes again*.. Finalissima!
Thursday 7:45pm: England v Brazil
TV: ITV1
England to Win
They’re probably the best team in the world, whatever way you want to slice it up. And that’s not really down to just funding, it’s also down to the appointment of Sarina Wiegman to steer them. They rarely played down to their opposition since she took over and that’s applaudable.
If this game is low tempo, it won’t be for long.
And the key point I’d make here is the emergence of more players playing at an even higher level since the Euros-winning campaign due to the competitive nature of the WSL.
The fact there’s four teams fighting out for the title means higher-intensity meetings and that’s huge for their development.
Lauren James to Score Anytime
And one of those players to emerge is Lauren James, who didn’t feature in their Euros campaign, but who now is probably one of the best full-backs in world football.
She gets so high up the pitch because England understand how to drop into defensive positions from midfield, and she netted against South Korea in the Arnold Clark Cup a couple of months back.
Maybe it’s brave to suggest a defender gets on the scoresheet, but when you see how high she plays and understand that she can step inside any opposing full back.
Games in front of big crowds always end up wielding fiesty challenges – call it adrenaline or making a statement, but it’s fairly frequent.
Brazil went flying in during their recent Copa America final against Colombia, and even picked up two bookings against Canada in an otherwise meaningless game.
BREAKING NEWS: There’ll be goals. England reserve their slow, shape-focused preparation for games that few people will see, but the FA push for the Lionesses to carry their entertainment wing as Gareth Southgate puts people to sleep.
They’ve scored 17 in their last five games, too. I’d not be counting any form of unders here.
