Impaire Et Passe to Win the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle

This sounds counterintuitive but you generally want your fast novice hurdler in the Ballymore Hurdle and then your stayer in the Supreme Hurdle despite the former having half a mile further to travel.

That’s because they go too hard in the Supreme Hurdle as it’s the first race of the festival, while the Ballymore runs far slower and turns into a sprint.

This is best exemplified by last year’s renewals where Bob Olinger showed the best turn of foot of any novice hurdler while Constitution Hill stayed alongside a mad pace set by Jonbon and Dysart Dynamo to power away.

Watch this gelding between the last and the line in the Moscow Flyer. Once a year, there’s an Irish banker that goes to Cheltenham and everyone on this island is convinced of their victory even before they get on the boat. It’s wise to stick by Impaire Et Passe to win.

Brighton v Crystal Palace – Under 1.5 Goals

When teams have fixtures begin to pile up, you generally find games going stale. This will be the case for Brighton who’ll be having their third game in eleven games when they host Crystal Palace.

This being a Palace side who haven’t had a shot on target in 270 minutes of Premier League football. For all the excitement we’re anticipating across the continent and Gloucestershire, it’s unlikely that we’re facing a classic on the south coast come kick-off here.

Napoli v Eintracht Frankfurt – Napoli to Win

If Napoli weren’t 2-0 up, they’d be far shorter. But they’ve developed an obsession with winning games that’s become second nature and are one of the few teams in Europe that are bomb-proof in this instance.

They’ve won 22 of their 26 games in Serie A this season and haven’t drawn a game since August. It’s not in their nature, so you’ve got two options here – a Frankfurt win or a Napoli one.

I know where my money rests here, particularly as Torino away at the weekend is a game they don’t need to rest players for.

Real Madrid v Liverpool – Over 2.5 Goals

Liverpool need to score and Real Madrid are the best team in Europe at exposing over-exuberant full backs. Not looking at anyone in particular, except Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Jurgen Klopp would have ideally dug into this second leg with a goal-in-hand and sat in, forcing shots from deeper but it didn’t transpire.

Given league form, it’s not as if Liverpool can give anything other than 100% either, so it’s catch 22 for them. Either way, expect fireworks.
