FA Cup fifth-round: Man United v West Ham
Wednesday, March 1
TV: ITV (7:45pm)
Newly-crowned Carabao Cup winners Man Utd face West Ham in the FA Cup on Wednesday night. The Hammers are obviously having a fairly poor season in comparison with the past few years, sitting a mere two points outside the relegation zone.
Will Utd see a Carabao Cup hangover or will Ten Hag’s side be able to hold out against a Hammers side that will be motivated to try and kickstart the final third of their season? We’ve found some value in the betting markets and come up with a six-fold Bet Builder.
Man Utd to Win
After a very strong performance all around against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final, United will be looking to carry that form into Wednesday night’s match. They’re playing an enjoyable style of football that is aggressive defensively and punishing in attack, a far cry from where they were at the beginning of the Ten Hag era.
The Red Devils have now won eight of their last 10 fixtures, drawing the other two, while at Old Trafford have won nine of their last 10, drawing the other. David Moyes’ side have won two of their last five on the road and have won in just one of their last 10 visits to United. We’re backing the hosts to advance here in 90 minutes.
Over 2.5 Goals
We’re hoping to see goals in this one, there have been over 2.5 goals scored in five of Utd’s last seven games, and we see that trend continuing. With Marcus Rashford in red-hot form and United scoring at least two goals in all 10 of their most recent on home soil, as well as West Ham scoring five of their last seven on the road, we’re likely to see at least three goals here.
Both Teams To Score: Yes
This slots nicely into our Bet Builder – West Ham will be on the warpath to try and find the net in this one, they’re under pressure to get any positive results in any competition that they can, and will be riding high thanks to their 4-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest at the weekend and we can easily see both teams getting at least one here.

Tomas Soucek to Score or be Shown A Card
Tomas Soucek leads West Ham in the fouling department, with 32 this season so far. He’s only managed to pick up one yellow card so far this season and has only scored once. However, the Czech international always seems to pop up when the Hammers need him most. We think he could step up in a big way in this match, either through finding his way into the book, or onto the scoresheet.
Said Benrahma to Have 1 or More Shots On Target
Benrahma is an interesting character from a statistical standpoint. He sits in the 28th percentile in both non-penalty goals and non-penalty xG, but sits all the way up in the 74th percentile in relation to shots per 90. Where he shines though, is in receiving progressive passes, the kind of passes that break lines and create opportunities for trouble.
We expect to see Benrahma hit at least one shot on target, a reasonable expectation surely, as he’s averaging just under three shots per game.
Marcus Rashford to Have 2 or More Shots On Target
Need we say more? An electrifying performance on Sunday, continuing an exceptional season by the man so far this season. He’s linking well with Wout Weghorst since his move that many were skeptical about in the January transfer window. Rashford is back creating opportunities, and has found a confidence that we haven’t seen since his hat-trick against RB Leipzig in 2020.
He’s hitting shots on target at 45% consistency which is well above and beyond the norm (usually around 30-33%), he’s going to be looking to add to his tally for the season and we see him testing Lukasz Fabianski in the Hammers goal.
