It’s a big week for Liverpool. If they’ve still got any aspirations of getting in the top four then they need to beat Newcastle. Newcastle have been fantastic this season but it’s been a great campaign for them and this should be a great game under the Saturday night lights. I’m really looking forward to this one!
If Liverpool win they’ll be six points behind Newcastle with a game in hand so it’s more than doable for this team. Any Liverpool fan would take a top four finish now for sure. They’re more than capable of coming back next season and winning the league so somehow getting in to that top four is so important.

Everton were poor in the Merseyside derby, there’s no getting away from that, but it was as good performance from Liverpool. If they can beat Newcastle and Real Madrid then that’s three massive results that can turn their season but we’ve been saying this about The Reds all year.
Virgil van Dijk was on the bench on Monday and Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino came on so the cavalry is returning. Newcastle have gone slightly off the boil, they’re not as hot as they have been.
They’ve been really, really solid and that’s been the recipe for their success. They’ve only lost once this season, that was against Liverpool, and they’ve only conceded 13 goals which is so impressive.
Liverpool can definitely win but Newcastle at home, when I’ve played up there, it’s really like they have an extra man when the crowd is with them which they will be on Saturday.
There’s definitely a buzz around the place at the moment so it will be difficult for Liverpool and, with Newcastle being so hard to beat, you have to fancy them to get something out of this. I think this might be a draw.
I think there’ll be goals, I think Both Teams Will Score and Newcastle have enough about them to get a few, especially at home. Traditionally there’s always been goals in this fixture and I think we could be on for a 2-2 or something like that.
Down the years these games have been quite feisty and the later kick off will add to the atmosphere. People are expecting excitement from this fixture so I think there’ll be a few cards, a few fouls and a few goals hopefully.
Miggy Almiron’s been a revelation this year but I think Callum Wilson will be a huge threat. He was rested against Bournemouth but it doesn’t look to be anything major. Wilson unsettles defenders and if it’s Joe Gomez and Joel Matip that he’s up against, he’s got the pace and strength to unsettle them both.
I think Cody Gakpo needed that goal against Everton. I know as well as anyone that you need a goal early when you join a club! It’s nice to get it out the way. It will give him a load of confidence, even though it was a tap in.
It showed that he can get in the right areas and he’s going to be so important in the run in. He’s been slightly underwhelming so far, he’ll know he can do better, and I think this team are working out how to play to his strengths. That goal did him the world of good and he’ll be better for it for sure.
