Monday night’s European action is serving up two intriguing fixtures. In Spain, Espanyol are flirting dangerously close to the relegation zone and face a Real Sociedad side who are trying to close the gap on second-placed Real Madrid. In Italy, relegation-threatened Sampdoria take on second-placed Inter. We’re found plenty of value in the markets here so let’s get straight into it. 

Sampdoria v Inter

TV: BT Sport 1 (7:45pm)

Over 2.5 Goals

With just 10 points after 21 Serie A games the writing looks to be on the wall for Sampdoria’s days in Italy’s top tier. I Blucerchiati have won none of their last six games in all competitions, losing five and drawing one while in the league have drawn one and lost four of their last five. At the Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris, they’ve lost all five of their most recent games, scoring no goals and conceding eight.

Inter have won four and lost one of their last five fixtures and on their league travels have won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring 11 and conceding 10. With the hosts failing to find the back of the net we see the visitors running riot, particularly as Over 2.5 goals has landed in four of their last five visits to Genoa.

Inter -1

As above really,  I Nerazzurri have scored seven over their last five fixtures and 11 over their last five away Serie A matches. With the hosts in such bad form and unable to hit a barn door of late we can only see the hosts winning this by a few goals.

Espanyol v Real Sociedad

At the time of writing Espanyol are just a point above Valencia in 18th position and only above Sevilla on goal difference. This may, of course, change by the time kickoff comes around here and they could find themselves in the dropzone. It’s not all bad news, the hosts have scored in all but one of their last 10 in all competitions and have scored at least one in eight of their last 10 at home in their La Liga fixtures.

Sociedad have scored seven over their last five league fixtures, scoring six over their last five on their La Liga excursions. With Both Teams to Score landing in three of their last five meetings here, as well as the pressure on the hosts to get something positive here, we’re liking the odds for both teams getting on the scoresheet come Monday night. 

Real Sociedad to Win

The hosts have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five in all competitions but their league form has actually improved of late after some very poor performances pre-World Cup. They’ve won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five in La Liga while at home have won one, drawn three and lost one.

The visitors however have won three, drawn one and lost one of their La Liga clashes and on their travels share the same results. The home side are drawing too many and while they need a win they’re likely to approach this cautiously, particularly as the away side score so many first half goals. We don’t see them withstanding Sociedad’s onslaught here so we’re backing the away side to take the three points.
