Premier League Predictions: Lawro’s score shouts this weekend

Mark Lawrenson returns to deliver the definitive verdict on the weekend's Premier League action.

It’s another huge weekend of action with big-spenders Chelsea getting the party started in the localist of derbies against Fulham on Friday night. First thing on Saturday Sean Dyche takes charge of struggling Everton for the first time at home to league-leaders Arsenal and there’s a juicy Tottenham v Manchester City meeting to round off the weekend on Sunday evening.

NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?

With plenty of big games on the horizon we thought it was only right to bring in our resident tipster and Premier League predicting guru, Mark Lawrenson.

Take it away, Lawro…

Chelsea v Fulham

Friday 8pm – Sky Sports

I’d love to be a fly on the wall there at Chelsea because how many players have they got to pick from? I don’t think they’ll play too many of the new ones who have only just signed up but I think they’ll win. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with them going forward. Chelsea 2-0 Fulham.

RESULT: Chelsea 0-0 Fulham

Everton v Arsenal

Saturday 12.30pm – BT Sport

Goodison will be raucous, that’s the way the Everton fans are. I think they know now, and I hate the phrase, that every game’s a cup final for them. They’ll get it forward quickly and Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be key for them and for Sean Dyche if he’s fit. They’ve got a much better chance of staying up with Dyche in charge. I think it will be a tough day for Arsenal but I think they’ll win just about. Everton 0-1 Arsenal.

RESULT: Everton 1-0 Arsenal

Aston Villa v Leicester

Saturday 3pm

Unai Emery’s done great since he’s come into Aston Villa and he’s really getting a tune out of them. Leicester have brought in a couple and they’re gradually improving. This should be tight. Aston Villa 1-1 Leicester.

RESULT: Aston Villa 2-4 Leicester

Brentford v Southampton

Saturday 3pm

Southampton have splashed the cash and slowly but surely they’re started to look a better team with every game they’ve played under Nathan Jones. Brentford, the great thing about them is they just play one way and they don’t complicate matters whatsoever. I think they’ll nick it. Brentford 2-1 Southampton.

RESULT: Brentford 3-0 Southampton

Brighton v Bournemouth

Saturday 3pm

I was at Brighton’s FA Cup win over Liverpool and they were really good. It sounds ridiculous but they know exactly how they play. By that I mean every player knows his role and they execute it to perfection. They’ve got lots of exciting young players and they’ll have too much for Bournemouth. Brighton 2-1 Bournemouth.

RESULT: Brighton 1-0 Bournemouth

Manchester United v Crystal Palace

Saturday 3pm

I think this will be a routine Manchester United win. Everything seems rosy in the garden up there and all the signings they’ve made have been really, really good. I’m a big fan of Erik ten Hag, he’s got common sense and I think he gives it to the players in training so good on him. Manchester United 2-0 Crystal Palace.

RESULT: Man Utd 2-1 Palace

Wolves v Liverpool

Saturday 3pm

I’ll be at this game and Liverpool have lots of injury worries. It’s been really interesting because they had two clean sheets before that Brighton game. Yes, that was another defeat, but the performance wasn’t that bad. They could have run away with it in the first half. Julen Lopetegui‘s done a good job and these two have played each other a lot recently. I’m going to go for a draw, Wolves just don’t score many goals. Wolves 1-1 Liverpool.

RESULT: Wolves 3-0 Liverpool

Newcastle v West Ham

Saturday 5.30pm – Sky Sports

West Ham badly need to win and I just wonder with Newcastle whether they might have a little hangover from reaching the Carabao Cup final during the week. I’m sure they would have celebrated, you have to celebrate reaching a first cup final for ages! I know Eddie Howe’s got a big squad but I think this might be a draw. Newcastle 1-1 West Ham.

RESULT: Newcastle 1-1 West Ham

Nottingham Forest v Leeds

Sunday 2pm – Sky Sports

I love watching Leeds because it’s just mad, it’s bonkers. It’s like the Wacky Races. Nottingham Forest crashed out of the Carabao which wasn’t a surprise but they’re good at home in general. I’ll go for an away win. Patrick Bamford coming back for them is massive, he’s just so calm and he’s such a good finisher. Nottingham Forest 0-2 Leeds.

RESULT: Forest 1-0 Leeds

Tottenham v Manchester City

Sunday 4.30pm – Sky Sports

It looks like Heung-min Son’s back to form, Harry Kane’s looking to break Tottenham’s all-time top scorer record but it’s Manchester City they’re up against. I’m going to go for a draw here which will really help Arsenal. City don’t look right and I’m not quite sure what’s happened but they could quite easily go and win all of the next 10-15 games and part of me thinks they might just do that, despite going for a draw in this one. Tottenham 1-1 Manchester City.

RESULT: Tottenham 1-0 Man City

LAWRO v CHALLENGER RESULT

Lawro is on a roll! The prize tally for next week will be a stonking £/€150 after our punting pal dished out a 6-3 thrashing this week. Mark correctly called Newcastle’s 1-1 draw with West Ham for three points to go with his correct result picks for Brentford, Brighton and Man Utd in in Saturday’s 3pm kick-offs. For our challenger, Dominic the Leeds fan, there were the same three correct result picks, but no correct scores.

We go again next week folks with Lawro going for win No.4 on the spin…
