Thursday 8pm: Real Madrid v Valencia
TV: ITV4, Viaplay Sports 1, LaLigaTV

Real Madrid (-1)

Real Madrid have been going through something of a wobble by their lofty standards and have only won one of their last seven games in all competitions (within the 90 minutes). They’ll fancy their chances of getting their Liga title charge back on track at home against Valencia who are way down in 14th and are also on a poor run with one win in their last six.

There’s been a lot of cup action for the Spanish sides recently so we’ll just focus on league form from here on out and the away side have really been struggling domestically of late with a single win in their last nine Liga contests, a run which cost Gennaro Gattuso his job earlier this week. Real have won three of their last five in the league but head into this one on the back of a rare 0-0 draw with Sociedad on Sunday.

Given Valencia’s slide, and their terrible away record of six points from eight games, we have to back a home win here and Real are obviously big favourites to take all three points. For a bit of value I’ll have Real Madrid (-1) in the handicap markets to kick us off.

Both Teams to Score

Valencia aren’t bad going forward, though. They’re La Liga’s 8th-highest scorers with 25 goals from their 18 games so far. Real are top of that particular table with 38 bagged in the same number.

We could be in for some excitement here then but both have fairly good defences as well. The big difference in Real’s output this season has been a big fall off with their backline as they were rock solid last season and this year they’ve already conceded in 13 league matches. With Valencia having a top-half quality attack we’ll back them to net and for Both Teams to Score.

Carlo Ancelotti

Karim Benzema to Score Anytime

Given how Karim Benzema lit up last season, smashing his xG to pieces on the way to another Champions League win, it’s a little surprising to see that he’s only on nine goals this time around. He’s still Real’s top scorer with three more than Federico Valverde and Vini Jr (both six) and he’s slap-bang in line with his xG in La Liga this season.

While he might not be setting Spain ablaze this time around he’s still putting in solid performances and will be super fresh after injury ended his World Cup campaign. He’s on the pens and is a monster in the 18-yard box. It’s got to be Benzema to Score Anytime.

Edinson Cavani to Score or Assist

In terms of Valencia, Edinson Cavani is undoubtedly their best route to troubling Real’s backline. El Matador has scored five and set up another this term for the Liga strugglers. With serial caretaker boss Voro back in temporary charge Cavani’s place is one that’s not up for debate so he’s got to be our best bet to Score or Assist for the visitors.

Samuel Lino to Have 1 or More Shots on Target

I was torn between Valencia’s Justin Kluivert or Samuel Lino in our last bet here. Both are averaging 1.1 Shots On Target per completed 90 minutes so far this season. Kluivert’s been in good form but hasn’t actually been playing that much and that’s swayed me towards Lino to Have 1 or More Shots on Target. If Kluivert starts he’s a good bet but Lino looks the safer option at the time of writing.
