Newcastle to win

Newcastle looked to be heading for a third goalless draw in a row on Sunday but finally managed to break down Fulham’s resistance through Alexander Isak to get their top four push back on track.

They now have an excellent opportunity to further consolidate their place in the Champions League places when they take on Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Palace may have rescued a last-gasp point against Manchester United on Wednesday, but they have only take four points from their last six league games and are slowly seeing the gap between them and the teams fighting relegation becoming smaller and smaller.

To highlight their slump in form, Palace were nine points clear of Nottingham Forest before their trip to the City Ground in their last game before the World Cup. They are now just three points ahead of Forest and could find themselves level on points if results don’t go their way at the weekend.

Newcastle, who are unbeaten in 13 league games, should have too much for Palace on Saturday evening.

Both teams to score? No

Not only have Palace lost four of their last six games in the league, but they have also failed to score in each of those four defeats.

Only Forest, Wolves, and the bottom three have scored fewer goals than Palace, who have scored 18 goals in 19 games this season.

Although Palace scored against United on Wednesday, it came from a shot to nothing from distance rather than the result of any cohesive attacking football.

Newcastle, on the other hand, have now kept five consecutive league clean sheets and boast by far the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Their record of 11 goals conceded in 19 league games is simply phenomenal and it’s difficult to see Palace causing them too many problems.

Newcastle and Palace have already met twice this season – once in the league and once in the League Cup – with both games finishing 0-0.

There is nothing to suggest that Saturday’s game will suddenly become a high-scoring shootout.

Callum Wilson to have two or more shots on target

Newcastle’s average of 14.4 shots per game is the fourth highest in the league this season, behind only Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

Palace, meanwhile, have faced an average of 13.3 shots per game, which is the 10th highest average in the league.

It therefore stands to reason that Newcastle will at least match their season average at Selhurst Park on Saturday.

Callum Wilson boasts an average of 2.6 shots per game in the league – the highest of any Newcastle player – and is good value to land two attempts on target on Saturday.

He registered three attempts on target in Newcastle’s win over Fulham last weekend and will likely be Newcastle’s most likely source of shots at Selhurst Park.

Marc Guehi to be shown a card

Crystal Palace boast one of the worst disciplinary records in the Premier League, collecting 40 yellow cards and two red cards in 18 games to date, and Marc Guehi boasts the worst disciplinary record of any Palace player.

Guehi has received six yellow cards in 17 appearances to date, the joint-most of any Palace player alongside Cheick Doucoure.

The young English defender commits roughly one foul per game and will be tested against an attacking Newcastle side on Saturday.

It wouldn’t be surprising if he picked up yet another yellow card.
