Chelsea v Crystal Palace
Over 2.5 Goals
It cannot be overstated how important this game is for Chelsea and under-fire manager Graham Potter. The Blues sit in 10th at the time of writing after a wretched run of results that has seen them pick up just six points from their last nin games.
Their defeat at Craven Cottage on Thursday night left them six points behind Fulham in the Premier League table, while defeat against Palace on Sunday would allow Palace to draw level on points with them with a game in hand. Chelsea are teetering on the edge of the bottom ten and face a Palace side that has blown hot and cold since the return of club football.
Palace have suffered heavy home defeats against Fulham and Spurs since the World Cup but recorded a decent 2-0 win at Bournemouth in between to avoid a complete spiral down the Premier League table. Whatever the result on Sunday, there should be goals.
Patrick Vieira’s side have scored an average of exactly one goal per game this season, conceding 1.5 per game. Chelsea, meanwhile, have kept just one clean sheet in their last eight league games in a run of results stretching back to mid-October.
They won 2-1 at Selhurst Park in the reverse fixture courtesy of a late Conor Gallagher winner and it wouldn’t be hugely surprising if it was a similar scoreline on Sunday.
Marc Guehi to be Shown a Card
Marc Guehi has been a mixed bag this season, but his disciplinary record has left much to be desired. The young defender had already received a one-match ban for accumulating five yellow cards in mid-November, just 13 games into the season.
Guehi commits an average of roughly one foul per game and could see his disciplinary record worsen at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Despite their awful form across the last nine games, Chelsea still appear to have gotten under their opponents’ skin, drawing 18 yellow cards across the nine games at a rate of two per game.
Guehi could pick up his sixth booking of the season on Sunday afternoon.
Newcastle v Fulham
Callum Wilson to 2 or more Shots on Target
Newcastle’s brilliant season continued on Tuesday night when they booked their place in the League Cup semi-finals, but they will want to get back to winning ways in the league after back-to-back goalless draws.
They face a tough task against an in-form Fulham, who have won four games on the bounce since the return of club football. Despite that good form, however, Fulham have faced 19 shots on target in their last three games and clearly give their opponents opportunities.
Newcastle boast the sixth-highest shots per game record in the league, averaging 14.1 shots per game this season, so it is likely they will at least match that figure against Fulham on Sunday.
Callum Wilson, meanwhile, averages 2.3 shots per game in the league this season and is good value to test Bernd Leno at least twice.
Over 9.5 Corners
Only Liverpool and Manchester City have won more corners this season than Newcastle. Eddie Howe’s side are averaging 6.6 corners per game in the league this season, conceding an average of 4.3.
On average, Newcastle games see an average of 10.9 corners, the second-highest average in the league. Fulham, on the other hand, win an average of exactly five corners per game and can be expected to win a few of their own when they travel to St. James’ Park on Sunday.
