It’s first v second in the Serie A on Friday night when league leaders Napoli host Juventus at the Diego Maradona Stadium. Both sides are in incredibly good form, both winning nine of their last 10 league encounters and a win for the away side could throw the title race open again. Sparks tend to fly when these two face each other and we usually see plenty of names going into the referee’s book over the 90 minutes. Here we’re looking at two of the players most likely to be carded.
Manuel Locatelli to be Shown a Card
One that has to make the list is Max Alligri’s enforcer Manuel Locatelli. The Italian international is an interesting player in this Juventus side, he’s having his most consistent season playing 14 of Juve’s 17 Serie A games this season and has featured in five of the Old Lady’s Champions League fixtures too. Over those 22 games he’s managed to pick up five Yellow Cards and has a few over his Italy matches too.
There’s a slight tinge of Roy Keane off Locatelli, he’s the type of player that will do anything for his teammates, he’s more than happy to play dirty and drag players around, bring down someone for a tactical foul but he’s always a very good ball player and while he doesn’t score many he’s the type that sets up plays that lead to goal-scoring opportunities.
He’s really made that middle position at the heart of the midfield five his own this season but as such he’s tasked with both stopping attacks that come through his section of the field and getting the ball away to the wings. He’s going to see plenty of traffic here and with five cards against Napoli over 11 games over his career we reckon he’s going to be adding to his tally here.
Kim Min Jae to be Shown a Card
Kim Min Jae has been an absolute mainstay of Napoli’s backline this season. Even though Luciano Spalletti has chopped and changed his formation over recent weeks depending on the opposition, Kim has been ever-present at Centre Back.
Like most Serie A defenders, he’s got a steak of meanness to his game, he’s collected a total of four Yellow Cards so far this season, we can add another three if we look at his South Korea appearances over the last few months too and he’s likely to have a tricky night with the likes of Moise Kean, Angel Di Maria, Weston McKennie and Adrien Rabiot bearing down on his when the Old Lady counters up the field. He’s got plenty of tricks in the bag to keep opposition attackers quiet but he doesn’t often have to face an opposition with so much attacking talent coming at him. We think he’ll be taking one for the team when the Old Lady comes to town.
