Manchester City -2

As expected, Manchester City are nailed on to win this in a competition that Pep Guardiola doesn’t take lightly. Their strength in depth is amazing but I fancy Erling Haaland to start and their price could become even worse when line ups are announced.

Southampton are struggling this season and while they beat Crystal Palace in the FA Cup last weekend, it should be a routine night for City.

Indeed, that win for the Saints over the weekend was only their second win over their last 10 fixtures, while at Saint Mary’s they’ve also won just two of their last 10, three if we count the penalties win over Sheffield Wednesday in one of the previous rounds of the cup.

City should win here at a canter, even with a rotated side, they’ve scored 12 goals over their last five matches while on their recent travels have won three, drawn one and lost one and of their last five away games in the League Cup have won four and lost one, scoring 11 while conceding just two. Against a struggling Saints side we’re backing City to win by at least two goals.

Erling Haaland to Score 2 or More Goals

Erling Haaland’s been simply sensational this season, he was rested against Chelsea at the weekend, meaning he’ll likely be in the starting XI here.

The young Norwegian has 21 goals over his 16 Premier League appearances, five in four in the Champions League and one in one in the League Cup. He’s already scored one against Southampton this season and we reckon he’s good for at least two on Wedneday night.
