7.45pm: Wigan v Sunderland
TV: Sky Sports Red Button
We’ll kick off in England with Wigan v Sunderland. The home side are bottom of the Championship and have won just six of their 23 games this term. Sunderland are moving on up and come into this clash in 9th, just one point off the playoffs.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Both Teams To Score
While, on paper, this looks like a nailed on away win, the best bet about should be Both Teams to Score. Both sides have netted in all four of Wigan’s most recent matches and four of The Black Cats’ last five. For all of Wigan’s problems, they have been scoring on a regular basis.
However, that defence is shocking and they’ve conceded two or more in five of their last six. The visitors almost always conceded themselves and have kept one clean sheet in their last six matches so we should have a great chance of Both Teams to Score landing here.
Over 2.5 Goals
Which leads us nicely on to Over 2.5 Goals. These two don’t really do draws and if both score then we’re likely to see over two goals in the game. Sunderland have drawn one of their last seven Championship matches.
Wigan have drawn one of their last five and, going further back, two of their most recent 18 Championship games. In terms of overs, Wigan have seen Over 2.5 Goals in four of their last six and it’s four of the last five for the visitors.
Ross Stewart to Score Anytime
The Loch Ness Drogba is back and in fine fettle. Ross Stewart had been absent through injury but has scored two in two since coming on against Hull on December 17th. He’s only played nine games this term but is still Sunderland’s top scorer.
He’s on seven for the season, one ahead of Ellis Simms who has played seven games more than him. He’s got a goal in each of his last two appearances, is on spot kicks as well, so Stewart to Score Anytime is by far your best bet in the goal-scorer markets.
8pm: Marseille v Toulouse
TV: BT Sport 1
We’ll hop over to equally-glamorous climes next where Marseille host Toulouse in Ligue 1. The hosts are 4th in the French top flight while Toulouse are down in 12th, just three points off the drop zone. These two haven’t played competitively since before the World Cup so that’s well worth bearing in mind but we’ll do out best to rustle up a couple of lively punts here.
Marseille (-1)
While it’ll feel like an age since Marseille stepped onto a football pitch in anger I think we can back them to come out strong and secure a big win here. They had been on a poor run but hit a bit of form before the international break. Toulouse, for their part, had lost three on the bounce before football upped sticks and headed to Qatar.
There might be a few goals in this one, especially as Toulouse shipped seven in their last three before the world cup. Marseille haven’t been hugely prolific but, coming in off, largely, a long rest for the squad we’ll back them to batter their visitors and for them to pass the Marseille (-1) handicap.
Both Teams to Score
It might not be a straightforward 2-0 win, though. Marseille were involved in games with loads of goals before the break, with 10 flying in during their three most recent matches. They almost always concede and have kept just one clean sheet in their last six matches.
Up until recently Toulouse had been decent going forward, though the goals had dried up a little of late. They scored one in their last three but before that had mustered a goal in the proceeding six games, scoring 12 times. If these two recent to the mean we can expect Both Teams to Score.
