The mid-season World Cup break couldn’t have come quick enough for Graham Potter’s Chelsea. The Blues managed just two points from their last five league games before the break, losing each of their last three before the season halted.
They have had six weeks to dwell on that wretched run of results, but the break has also given them a chance to reset. Bournemouth, on the other hand, were on a similarly bad run before beating Everton in their final match.
The Cherries had lost four games on the bounce, throwing away a two-goal lead in consecutive games against Leeds and Tottenham, before a 3-0 win over Everton lifted them three points clear of the relegation zone.
They have a competitive game under their belts after their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the League Cup and are unlikely to be too concerned about crashing out of the competition. Chelsea will almost certainly be nervous on Tuesday evening and Bournemouth are more than capable of causing them problems.
Both teams to score
Chelsea do not boast a good defensive record this season, conceding 17 goals in their 14 league games to date. Kalidou Koulibaly has not settled in well since joining in the summer and Potter’s side still appears to be one or two defenders short of a proper defensive unit.
They failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four games before the break and have recorded just four clean sheets in 14 games this season, with just one of those coming at Stamford Bridge.
Bournemouth, meanwhile, have scored 18 goals in 15 games this season, which represents the third-best scoring record in the bottom half.
The Cherries scored eight goals in their last three games before the break and are fully capable of breaching what will surely be a rusty Chelsea defence on Tuesday.

Kai Havertz to score anytime
Chelsea’s biggest problem this season has been the lack of an out-and-out goalscorer.
No player has scorer more than three goals in the league this season, while Raheem Sterling is the club’s top scorer in all competitions with just five goals to his name.
Kai Havertz is one of two Chelsea players to net three in the league, and the German is coming back to the Chelsea squad off the back of a half-decent World Cup that saw him net twice before Germany’s group stage exit.
Given Sterling’s loss of form due to personal issues, Havertz is arguably the most likely player to find the back of the net for Chelsea on Tuesday.
Kieffer Moore to score anytime
Kieffer Moore is another player returning to his club off the back of a decent World Cup.
He may not have scored during Wales’s group stage exit, but his introduction against the USA changed the game and helped Wales win their solitary point of the tournament.
Moore scored three goals in Bournemouth’s three games before the World Cup, giving them a two-goal lead against Tottenham with a brace and scoring their second in the 3-0 win over Everton.
With four goals to his name, he is currently their joint-top goalscorer alongside Philip Billing and can add to his tally against an unconvincing Chelsea defence at Stamford Bridge.
