Domestic fixtures have been beginning to creep back into action over the last day or two and Wednesday night’s action has plenty to offer. We’ve gone through the best of the fixtures and found five value picks from the Carabao Cup, Championship and the Scottish Premiership.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
Coventry v West Brom – Over 2.5 Goals
Championship: 7.45pm
Although these two are sitting mid-table in the Championship standings, both are in pretty decent shape over the last month or so. Coventry have won four of their last six, drawing one and losing one while the Baggies have won five of their last six, losing the other one. At the Ricoh (or whatever Mike Ashley is calling it now) the Sky Blues have won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring nine and conceding five while West Brom, on their recent travels have won three and lost two, scoring six and conceding four.
With both teams in ripe form you’d have to expect goals and with both teams scoring at least two goals in three of their last five each we see at least three goals here.
Blackburn v Nottingham Forest – Blackburn Over 1.5 Goals
Carabao Cup: 7.45pm
Now this should be an interesting clash. Blackburn are third in the Championship and have had a good season so far, other than the odd wobble. Forest have had a tough return to the Premier League and are third from bottom but went into the break only losing one of their last five matches. Rovers have won two, drawn one, winning it on penalties, and lost two of their last five fixtures while at Ewood Park have won four and lost one, scoring nine and conceding five.
Forest have won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five in all competitions but their away form is dire with just one draw and four losses on their travels with no goals scored and 16 conceded. The hosts have scored at least two goals in six of their last eight on home soil and with Forest conceding so many on the road we’re getting some great value here in backing that trend to continue.
Charlton v Brighton – Brighton to Win & Both Teams to Score
Carabao Cup: 7.45pm
The market very much expects an easy win for the away side here and League One’s Charlton are in pretty bad shape of late, winning none of their last seven matches, losing five of them. At the Valley they’ve won two, drawn one and lost one, scoring a respectable nine and conceding seven.
The Seagulls have won three, drawn one and lost one over their last five while on their travels have won two, drawn two and lost two, scoring nine and conceding 10. There’s little doubt that Brighton will advance into the next round by winning here but they’ve only kept one clean sheet over their last 12 fixtures and none over their last seven on their travels. Brighton to Win & Both Teams to Score has the value here.
Celtic v Livingston – Celtic to Win to Nil
Scottish Premiership: 7.45pm (CelticTV)
With Aberdeen facing Rangers on Tuesday night, Celtic’s lead at the top of the Premiership could be cut down to six points by the time kickoff time comes around here. They played a decent amount of friendlies over the break, losing to Sydney FC and Rennes and Everton on penalties but resumed normal service last Saturday beating the aforementioned Aberdeen 0-1 in the league. The Celts have won nine of their last 10 league fixtures and have now gone 32 home league games without a loss, winning nine and drawing one of their last 10 at Celtic Park.
Livingston have won two, drawn two and lost one of their last five, winning just one of their last five on the road, drawing two and losing two, scoring six and conceding 11. The away side have only scored in two of their last eight visits to east Glasgow; we’re backing the Bhoys to Win to Nil here.
Man United v Burnley – Both Teams to Score
Carabao Cup: 8pm (Sky Sports Main Event)
Any Man United fan who thinks they’re in for an easy win here could be in for a bit of a shock. Burnley have scored at least three goals in five of their last six games and former Man City man Vincent Kompany has them playing some very nice football. United are going to be without a few of their first XI here thanks to their involvement at the World Cup and the away side are going to be eager to give them a test on home soil.
Saying that, United are one of the best in the land in their own backyard, winning five and drawing one of their last six, scoring a total of 11 goals while conceding just two. The Clarets have won five and lost one of their last six fixtures and on their travels have won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring 11 while conceding eight. With those records, we simply have to go with a Both Teams to Score pick here.
