The desert dust has barely settled on the World Cup and four Premier League teams return to action on Tuesday night in the League Cup; Leicester City travel to MK Dons while Newcastle host Bournemouth in the tie of the round. Elsewhere, Southampton face Lincoln and Wolves entertain Gillingham. Let’s dive into the stats and form and see what value we can dig up. All games kickoff at 7.45pm.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
MK Dons v Leicester – Leicester to Win & Both Teams to Score
Leicester City haven’t kicked a competitive ball since a 0-2 away victory over West Ham in the Premier League on November 12th. MK Dons have played eight games from then until now, they’ll at least be more game-fit than their opponents, however, of those eight games they only won two, drawing one and losing five. Over their last five home games, the hosts have won two, drawn one and lost two, scoring eight and conceding seven.
The Foxes had been on a good run before the World Cup break, winning four and losing just one of their last five, scoring 11 while conceding just one. On their travels, Brendan Rodger’s side have won three and lost two, also scoring 11 but conceding eight. The Dons have scored in 16 of their last 20 at home and being more match fit should cause some damage here. Leicester, however, should come out on top with the quality they have in their squad; we’re backing Leicester to Win & Both Teams to Score.
Newcastle v Bournemouth – Over 2.5 Goals
Toon had been on a great run prior to the pause in proceedings, winning seven of their last nine, drawing the other two and winning one on penalties. They are quite short odds to take the victory here and you’d have to fancy them with those previous results. At St James’ Park they’re undefeated over their last 10 games, winning all five of their most recent, scoring eight while conceding six, albeit in just two of those five clashes.
Bournemouth have won two and lost three of their last five fixtures in all competitions, their away record isn’t exactly great with just one win over their last five on the road, drawing two and losing two with nine goals scored and 11 conceded. While Eddie Howe’s Magpies have been keeping a decent amount of clean sheets of late you’d have to expect the Cherries to get on the scoresheet here and we see at least three goals being scored in this one.
Southampton v Lincoln – Both Teams to Score
As in our first match above, Southampton haven’t kicked a ball since a 3-1 loss away to Liverpool on November 12th. Lincoln have played six games in that time, winning two, drawing two, winning one on penalties, and losing one, scoring eight and conceding seven. On their travels, however, things aren’t so rosy with just two wins over their last five and three losses with just four goals scored and five conceded.
The Saints had been on a bad run up to the break, winning just one of their last 10, although did win one other fixture on penalties, drawing three and losing six. At St Mary’s they’ve drawn three, winning one on penalties, and lost two, scoring five and conceding nine. Hard to see them keeping a clean sheet, something they’ve done just once over their last 15 on home soil so we have to go with the value here in the BTTS market.
Wolves v Gillingham – Under 2.5 Goals
Bottom of the Premier League v Bottom of League Two here. As you’d expect then both teams aren’t in good form, Wolves have won just one of their last five competitive fixtures, drawing one and losing three while at Molineux have won two and lost three, scoring four while conceding nine.
GIllingham have won one, drawn two and lost two of their last five fixtures, while on the road have drawn four, winning one on pens, and lost one of their last five fixtures. Punters are expecting a bit of a goalfest; it’s odds-on for Over 2.5 goals here, however Overs has only landed in two of their last 10 combined home and away games and in four of their last 10 combined overall games so the value here is actually in opposing goals.
