Thursday Football Tips
We’ve just crossed the mid-way point in this season’s Group Stage in the Women’s Champions League and the leading teams are beginning to emerge. Here we take a look at three games scheduled for Thursday and find the three best bets for a terrifically tasty treble. Let’s get to it then.
NEW TO PADDY POWER NEWS?
Both sides come into this clash enjoying some incredible form. The Wolves have won 20 of their last 21 fixtures in all competitions while the Romans have won 16 of their last 20, losing just one of the other four. The sides played out a 1-1 draw just over two weeks ago in Rome in what was a pretty even game. As the top two teams, both on seven points after three matches, they’ll want to keep some distance between themselves and St Polten, who face Slavia Prague later in the evening, behind them on three points.
You’d have to look at the goals markets here. Wolfsburg have scored a very healthy 20 over their last five fixtures and 21 over their last five at home while Roma have scored 10 over their last five in all competitions and 12 over their last five on their travels. Getting Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals above Evens here screams value.
Chelsea come into their Group A fixture against Los Blancos as favourites. The Blues have won all 11 of their most recent fixtures and have scored at least three goals in seven of those 11 and at least two goals in 10 of them. A point here will also see them secure their place in the Last 16 but knowing how they play they won’t want to settle for a draw.
Real have had a bit of a wobble of late, they were on the wrong end of a 0-4 pasting by Barcelona a month ago and Chelsea beat them 2-0 in the reverse fixture at Kingsmeadow just over a fortnight ago. They have, however, won the three other games over their last five. On home soil they’ve won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring 14 and conceding six.
Chelsea, on their travels, have won all five of their most recent away trips, scoring a mammoth 17 while conceding just two. With both teams in such ripe goal-scoring form, as well as Real needing a win here as they chase a second-place finish we should see sparks here so again, we’re backing both teams to get on the scoresheet and at least three goals.
ENGLAND v FRANCE BETTING: Here’s Phil Thompson’s 18/1 Bet Builder tips
Both sides come into their Group B clash with some great goal-scoring stats, the hosts have won four of their last five games, scoring 20 goals while conceding five and of their last five home games have won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring 21 while conceding six.
Slavia have won three and lost two of their last five, scoring 20 and conceding four while on their travels have won three and lost two, scoring 20 goals as well. However, their Champions League form on the road is pretty bad, winning just one of their last five on their European travels, drawing one and losing three and managing to score in just two of those five matches. You’d expect both teams to score here but the hosts have a very good record of keeping eight clean sheets over their last 10 on home soil. Couple this with Slavia’s bad away European record and the best value here is in backing the hosts to take the three points.
