Thursday, December 1: 19:00 – Japan v Spain
TV: ITV, ITVX, RTE Two

Spain coming into their final Group E game on four points after wholloping Costa Rica 7-0 in their opening game before drawing 1-1 with Germany on Sunday last. A draw will see them through but they’re going to want to finish the group as top dog and should breeze past this Japan side.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Spain To Win

Spain would, of course, rather have beaten Germany as it would have taken them into the Last 16 with a game to go but thanks to conceding that late goal to the Germans still have a bit of work to do. I fully expect them to come out stongly here and beat Japan quite convincingly. When it all clicks together they can cut through any team and I don’t see this Japanese side getting anything positive when they face the Spaniards on Thursday night.

Both Teams To Score: No

I see the Spanish coming out of this with a 0-3 victory and I don’t see Japan scoring at all. Over their last four Nations League games the Spanish kept three clean sheets, against Switzerland, Czech Republic and most impressively of all, Portugal. The Swiss and the Portuguese are far better sides than this Japan team and I don’t see them putting a dent in that solid Spanish defensive armour.

Ferran Torres to Score Anytime

I’ve always liked Ferran Torres and I don’t think we got to see the best of him in the Premier League when he was playing for Manchester City. He looks far more comfortable back in Spain with Barcelona. He scored two goals in that magnificant display against Costa Rica in their opening game, scoring one from the penalty spot.

He didn’t get the goal against the Germans on Sunday night but I can see his pace causing plenty of problems when the Spanish are streaming forward in search of a goal. There’s a few other likely contenders among the Spanish team but I fancy him to get his name on the scoresheet here.

Spain (-2)

I really see the Spanish turning on the style here againast Japan, a little like what we saw against Costa Rice in their opening game. Of course, we saw plenty of fluid football against the Germans too but when Hansi Flick brought on a proper, old-school front man it cause Spain’s defence problems. Japan have some decent players in their ranks but nothing of the quality of the Germans and I think the Spaniards could run riot here. I see them winning this by at least three goals.
