Thursday, December 1: 15:00 – Canada v Morocco (BBC2) and Croatia v Belgium (BBC1)

Canada v Morocco tips

I think this one is going to be a cracking encounter. Morocco are coming off the back of that fantastic win over Belgium and they are ranked as the second best team in the world. It was very much an upset but they played really well, got their tactics spot on and really frustrated their opponents across the park. I must say that I was really impressed with them.

Canada have huffed and puffed and been very dangerous in their games but this is a results business and they don’t lie. For all their attacking and getting into the faces of opposition they’ve now scored just one goal and conceded five over their two World Cup games.

I think this is going to be pretty tight and Morocco will weather anything the Canadians throw at them. We’ve seen Canada’s wayward finishing and they just don’t have the quality up front to really take charge in games. Morocco have impressed me as I’ve said and I think their guile in defence will be the key here and I see them taking the three points here.

Croatia v Belgium tips

The pressure is really on Belgium to come good here. Croatia were very impressive in their 4-1 dismissal of Canada on Sunday, fighting back from 0-1 down to win 4-1. That just shows us all how good this team are; how stubborn they are and you have to be stubborn on the international stage to get results.

They’ve got plenty of stars all over the field and when they play together they can go toe-to-toe with the best in the world. They weren’t great against Morocco in their opening game but they seem to have put that out of their system and will be eager to take on a Belgian side who look a little lost, yet again.

Roberto Martinez has to start with Romelu Lukaku here, he just simply has to. They desperately need to win here and as good as Michy Batshuayi has been for the Red Devils, it’s the former other Red Devil Lukaku who is the better goal-scoring threat.

The onus will be on the Belgians to go for this, with Croatia and Morocco both a point ahead of them in the group a draw might not be enough. I think they’ll finally come good here and win over the 90 minutes but it certainly won’t be plain sailing. Croatia are no pushovers and I see them scoring here to so I’m backing Belgium to Win and Both Teams to Score.
