Spain have shortened in this fixture after we got to see both teams in action on Gameweek 1, and if you watched them both play you can probably understand why.
Germany looked very open at the back, giving up plenty of opportunities to Japan before eventually conceding the two goals that lost them the game.
Spain on the other hand, while against worse opposition, controlled the game with ease, scored seven times and barely gave up a chance. They look like a side with far more chemistry than Germany, with Pedri and Gavi likely to run this game again.
This game will be the first of the tournament where two of the pre tournament favourites play against each other, and there will be plenty of attacking talent on show here for both sides.
After Germany’s opening day defeat to Japan, they are now nearly 2/1 to qualify through the group, so just come out all guns blazing in this game.
They have to win in this game if they have any chance of qualifying, and with the depth of attacking talent both sides have, I’d be surprised if either team kept a clean sheet here.
Pedri didn’t get involved in the goalscoring action against Costa Rica, but he was very unlucky not to get an assist after creating numerous big chances which the Spanish forwards failed to finish.
He was a joy to watch in the opener, with mazy dribbles and a beautiful array of passing. He looks to be on his way to dragging Spain to the latter stages of this tournament, and could be well in contention for the Golden Ball award come December 20th.
I’m picking him to get an assist in this game, so let’s hope Marco Asensio, Dani Olmo or Ferran Torres can finish one of the chances he creates for them in this game.
It’s hard to believe Jamal Musiala is only 19 when we watch him play. He has amazing close control and is a serious threat close to the opposition goal. He’s managed to score 13 times for Bayern this season as well as averaging almost three shots per game, and looked like Germany’s biggest threat against Japan. If Germany are to get the result they need here, he will be at the forefront of that.
