Ireland face an Erling Haaland-less Norway tonight and while it’ll be a bit of a disappointment for the fans going to not to see the Manchester City superstar playing, it’ll mean the hosts have a far better chance of making it four wins from five home games at the Aviva.

We’ve got our value spectacles on and driven deep into the markets to find some value for a four-fold Bet Builder.

Both Teams to Score

Stephen Kenny’s Republic of Ireland have won two, drawn one and lost two of their last five fixtures and while those results don’t look incredible the vast majority of Ireland fans would agree that over recent fixtures the team has made vast improvements in the way they’ve taken on the opposition.

In Dublin they’ve only lost two of their last 12 games although the vast majority of them have ended all square. Over their five most recently played games on home soil the Boys in Green have won three, drawn one and lost one, scoring nine goals while conceding five.

Norway have won two, drawn one and lost two over their most previously played clashes and share the same results over recent away games. Haaland being given the night off means they’re obviously missing a goal machine up front.

Over Norway’s last 10 games he’s scored nine goals but we have to point out that five other players also chipped in as they scored a total of 18 goals over those 10 matches. He’ll be a big miss but there’s still plenty of talent in Stale Solbakken’s side and against an Irish side who’ve kept just two clean sheets over their last eight matches you’d have to expect both sides to score here.

Jayson Molumby to be Booked

Alan Browne nearly got the nod here as he’s received the highest amount of bookings in the current squad over recent games. Jayson Molumby though is our choice to have his name taken thanks to his performance against Armenia recently. The West Brom midfielder was hooked in the 51st minute as he was making wild tackles in the centre of the park when he was already on a yellow card and seemed to be losing his temper.

He’s received a handful of cards for the Baggies this season and over his World Cup qualifiers and Nations League games for Ireland has seen his name taken three times. He plays two roles for Ireland thanks to Kenny’s tactics, he’s either a pivot in the midfield looking for through balls and forward passes or he’s the last man in front of the defenders and in this role he can be just a wee bit late when it comes to making tackles. We’ve marked him as the player most likely to be booked here.

Michael Obafemi to Score or Assist

Swansea City’s Michael Obafemi has been one of the best things about this new-look Ireland. Since coming into the side he’s played five games, scoring two goals and when he receives the ball he’s immediately all about either getting a shot on target or creating something for a teammate.

He’s only scored three goals for Swansea in 12 starts this season but had netted 12 in 20 the previous season for the Swans. His link-up play has greatly improved though this campaign and if he gets the nod to start here we see his creative playing either leading to a goal or him getting on the scoresheet.

Draw

Norway will surely set up to defend here and give the space to Ireland and the fans will know only too well that this doesn’t always sit well with Irish teams. They prefer to counter teams and nick a goal from a set piece or on the break. With the pace of Molumby and Obafemi this can work a treat but we’ve seen all too often of late that Ireland don’t really know what to do when leading in a game.

Instead of going for a second to kill a game they let other teams onto them and Norway certainly have the quality in their ranks to get one against an Irish side who don’t keep many clean sheets.

Had Haaland been starting there’s little doubt Ireland were likely to struggle against the Norwegians but without him they’re unlikely to lose but don’t quite have the quality in the final third to beat teams convincingly.

As such the best value in the Home/Draw/Away market is by far in backing the Draw.
