Thursday 8pm: Manchester United v Aston Villa
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Manchester United (-1)

It might seem crazy to tip Manchester United to handsomely beat Aston Villa just days after they were beaten convincingly by the same opponent, but there is method to the madness. Playing in front of their own fans in Unai Emery’s first game in charge, Villa were fired up for their 3-1 win over United on Sunday.

It is a different story doing it away from home in a game of lesser importance. Villa have also lost their last two away games by a combined score of 7-0 and have only one win on the road this season – at Bolton in the League Cup.

United, on the other hand, were sluggish and showed signs of a hangover from last week’s game against Real Sociedad that saw them win the game but finish second in their Europa League group. Apart from their opening two games when they lost back-to-back games against Brighton and Brentford, United do seem to bounce back after disappointing results under Erik Ten Hag.

They beat Liverpool one week after losing 4-0 at Brentford and responded to their trouncing at Manchester City by going nine games unbeaten in all competitions. A similar reaction following Sunday’s defeat at Villa Park would not be all that surprising so we’ll kick off with Manchester United (-1) in the handicaps.

Anthony Martial to score Anytime

Anthony Martial made a brief cameo at Villa Park on Sunday as part of his recovery from injury and it wouldn’t be surprising if he starts on Thursday to regain some match sharpness (before losing it again when the World Cup begins). The French striker has barely featured for United this season but looks like he has shaken off the terrible form that has plagued him over the past two seasons.

Martial has scored three goals and registered two assists despite starting just one game this season, scoring a goal every 50 minutes that he has been on the pitch. He opened the scoring in his last appearance against Villa in January 2021 and we’ll back Martial to Score Anytime on Thursday.

Alejandro Garnacho to Score Anytime

Alejandro Garnacho started in Sunday’s defeat at Villa Park and didn’t shy away from taking on his man before being hooked off during the second half. The youngster didn’t have much of an impact on the game, but it is asking a lot of a raw talent to produce in the biggest league in the world at 18 years of age.

Garnacho finished brilliantly in United’s win at Real Sociedad and clearly is a star in the making. With some of United’s wide players inching their way back to fitness, Garnacho may start on Thursday night and make way for a more experienced player when United travel to Craven Cottage on Sunday.

But he has shown enough quality to prove he can make an impact if he does feature on Thursday. It’s a nice price on Garnacho to Score Anytime.

Both Teams To Score? No

United were atrocious at the back on Sunday and practically handed Villa their three goals on a silver platter. Expect them to be much tighter at Old Trafford on Thursday.

United haven’t conceded in their last five home games in a run stretching back to mid-September and will fancy their chances of extending that record against a Villa side that has scored three goals in six away games against Premier League opposition this season. This is a great chance of United’s defence to re-establish some confidence with a clean sheet and Both Teams To Score? No before a very difficult trip to Fulham on Sunday.
