Man City -1

Chelsea couldn’t have asked for a worse run of fixtures heading into the extended international break for the upcoming World Cup. The Blues have lost two league games on the bounce and could very well finish this period of the season with two further defeats, with a League Cup game against Manchester City and a Premier League game against high-flying Newcastle on the horizon.

It’s hard to see Chelsea causing a shock at the Etihad on Wednesday against a City side that has won ten games out of ten at the Etihad this season, scoring 39 goals in the process. Chelsea, on the other hand, have been convincingly beaten by Brighton and Arsenal in their last two league outings and appear to be struggling to find a rhythm under Graham Potter.

There is no doubt that Potter is an astute manager, but it will take time to implement his ideas at Stamford Bridge and it feels as though he will not fully make his mark on the Chelsea side until after the World Cup. It’s hard to see anything but a comfortable City win.

Phil Foden to Score Anytime

Phil Foden made a lightning start to the season, scoring seven goals in City’s first 10 games in all competitions. He has not scored in any of his last seven appearances however, and has been consigned to an increasingly bit-part role in City’s league games. Foden started in City’s irrelevant Champions League outings against Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla so it stands to reason that he will start this comparatively unimportant League Cup fixture as well.

The English star has scored just one goal in 10 appearances against Chelsea but will fancy his chances of adding to that record given the Blues’ recent defensive struggles. Foden has an excellent chance to generate some momentum ahead of the World Cup in two weeks.

Jack Grealish Anytime Assist

Things have gone downhill for Jack Grealish ever since he unwisely chose to have a go at Miguel Almiron’s footballing abilities at the end of the season last May. Since mocking Almiron, Grealish has scored just two goals in 14 appearances for City, while he has registered no assists in the same period.

Almiron, on the other hand, has scored eight times since Grealish called his footballing abilities into question. However, Grealish has performed consistently well, even if he doesn’t have the goals and assists to show for it. He averages close to two key passes per game for City this season and will cause havoc against a haphazard Chelsea defence. Grealish was hooked off after 64 minutes during City’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday and should play a starring role here.

Raheem Sterling to Score or Assist

Despite winning ten home games on the bounce this season, City have been unconvincing at the back. Pep Guardiola’s side have managed four clean sheets in their ten home games this season, conceding nine goals. They have left the door open for most sides visiting the Etihad and it should be no different on Wednesday, especially if Guardiola fields a somewhat weakened team.

Raheem Sterling is returning to the Etihad for the first time since leaving City in the summer and will be looking to take advantage of their relative struggles at the back. Sterling has enjoyed a relatively lukewarm start to life at Stamford Bridge but still boasts seven goals or assists in his opening 16 games. He has by no means set the world alight at Chelsea but has the tools to hurt City.
