Monday 8pm: Plymouth Argyle v Exeter City
TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football

Plymouth to Win

It’s Monday Night Football but not as we know it. To kick off the working week it’s not the blinding lights of Old Trafford, Anfield or The Emirates with Gary and Jamie ruing the weekend’s VAR decisions, but those of Home Park down in the South West for a dishy Devon derby between bitter enemies Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City.

These are always meaty clashes and there’s an extra spicy ingredient thrown into the pot this time around with both sides going well in League One. Heading into the weekend’s games Argyle were top of the pile with a 100% record at home while The Grecians were 7th, just outside the playoffs, following their promotion from League Two last season.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Argyle have won 12 of their 16 matches this term, drawing two and losing the other two, while Exeter have won and lost six with four draws rounding off their vital statistics. City have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five while the hosts have won all eight of their home matches and haven’t lost for 13 games.

While fully appreciating that this is a derby match and all the old clichés about form going out of the window etc, we simply have to be on Plymouth to Win here. The Grecians will probably be coming here looking for a point but Argyle just get it done at home and they’ll relish playing under light lights, in front of the tv cameras, and in front of a full house.

Over 3.5 Goals

There should be goals here and there could be loads of them. Plymouth’s 16 games this season have seen 49 goals at an average of 3.1 per match and for Exeter it’s two goals fewer and a 2.94 on average per 90 minutes.

Over their last five matches Argyle have averaged 3.6 goals per match (18 goals) and for the visitors it’s 3.4 (17) with a 0-0 away at Derby last time thrown in as well. This could be cagey, like Exeter’s last match on Tuesday, but Argyle don’t do reserved and I think they might grab the opener and blow this game wide open.

Morgan Whittaker to Score Anytime

Plymouth have made good use of the loan market this year and Morgan Whittaker has been one of the best acquisitions on that front. Aston Villa’s Finn Azaz also fits into that bill but is an injury doubt after limping off against Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

Both are on six goals for the season and The Pilgrims have been sharing them about with Niall Ennis also on six while Sam Cosgrove and Ryan Hardie both have five apiece. Picking just one man to score for them is tricky but with Azaz a doubt and our man getting the winner last time out we’ll plump for Whittaker to Score Anytime.

Jevani Brown to Score Anytime

There’s absolutely no doubt about who Exeter’s star man has been this season and that’s Jamaican playmaker/attacker Jevani Brown. Brown has 15 direct goal involvements this with seven assists and eight goals already, including a hat-trick the last time The Grecians were on the telly in the 4-0 demolition of Forest Green Rovers.

I was really tempted to go with Brown to grab an assist here, especially with Fulham loanee Jay Stansfield starting to find his shooting boots. But, as he’s on penalties and enjoys the spotlight, as well as the fact he’s got eight goals to his name already, I’ll instead have Brown to Score Anytime in what could, hopefully, be a thrilling derby on the TV on Monday night.
