Everton to Win

Quality should be the only indicator of where you finish – either on the pitch or on the tactics board. However it increasingly feels like teams get too carried away after a few results – either good or bad.

So, when it boiled down to it, I’m picking the side who’ve benefitted less from results against kamikaze outfits, and that’s Everton. A three-nil win over Palace was hard-fought, as was the one-nil defeat to Newcastle. Everton have actually pieced together a string of really good performances and the setbacks don’t appear to be troubling them as much as they did last year.

They’re solid at the back and improving in attack. They can surprise an impressive-to-date Fulham here.

I think Frank Lampard will notice that his side do best in games that are tight, while Fulham seem to benefit in shootouts where Mitrovic gets that bit more room because defenders are focused on stepping up and starting attacks.

Fulham really don’t do well in close-knit games because they don’t have someone who can turn quickly in midfield and pick a pass when there doesn’t appear to be one.

When things don’t go his way, he generally lashes out.

And while Mitrovic’s goal scoring record is impressive, it’s not solely down to conversion. He’s taken the same amount of shots as Harry Kane and Erling Haaland. And when you consider how much easier their chances are, you start to understand that he’s carrying an attacking threat by himself – as much in defeat as in victory.

Demarai Gray to Have Three or More Shots

A favourite of Lampard, Gray is the ever-present in the Everton lineup and he’s one of very few players who likes to shoot from range.

Given the lack of opening I anticipate, it’s better to side with the players who are happy to shoot in low-probability situations.
