Liverpool to Win

I’m still struggling to get my head around Liverpool this season. After being so consistent for so long they’ve been below par in 2022/23 but looked to be steading the ship with three straight wins. However, they then suffered a shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest last time out to throw everything up in the air again.

Here they face Ajax for their fifth Group A Champions League match knowing that a draw would see them into the knockouts but also that a loss would mean they have to go face Napoli on the final day looking for that fabled point. The kicker is that they were thrashed 4-1 in Italy earlier in the campaign.

The Reds just pipped Ajax 2-1at Anfield thanks to a Joel Matip 89th minute winner back in September and the hosts here might fancy their chances of turning the tables in Amsterdam. Boss Jurgen Klopp will have them fired up and ready to go and, while not having that bulletproof confidence in them that you might have last season, I just think Liverpool will find a way to Win here.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

Over 3.5 Goals

Despite there being a total of just three goals in Liverpool’s last three matches you have to think there’ll be a few here as that’s very much the exception rather than the rule. Prior to this little barren run, Liverpool games had seen at least two goals in the six proceeding matches, a run that had a whopping 29 goals at an average of 4.83 per match.

Even with their three recent 1-0s thrown into the mix it’s 32 goals in their last nine, an average of 3.56 goals per game. Ajax are, generally, equally exciting and they simply have to win here or they’re headed for the Europa League.

They’ve had Over 3.5 Goals in their last five games with a total of 31 goals giving a monster total of 6.2 per game! Napoli scored 10 of those and they do have big defensive issues which Liverpool might punish as the game goes on. Over 3.5 Goals might look like a big benchmark but the numbers suggest we could clear it quite easily.

Darwin Nunez to Have 3 or More Shots on Target

Liverpool new boy Darwin Nunez is certainly box office. The Uruguayan hitman is always in the thick of it, whether it’s headbutting someone, trying a shot from 40 yards of shanking one wide from two yards out.

His all-action approach is perfect for The Reds and, with a bit of fine tuning, he’s got missive potential. He’s currently ticking along at 2.6 Shots on Target per 90 minutes and if this turns into a bun fight you can bet he’ll be trying his luck from everywhere. If he starts, which he might after missing the 0-1 loss at the weekend, I really like the look of Nunez to Have 3 or More Shots on Target.

Brian Brobbey to Score or Assist

If Ajax are to score here, and I think they will, the man most likely to be involved at the sharp end is their 20-year-old attacking sensation Brian Brobbey. He’s got 10 direct goal involvements in all competitions this season with seven of those being the finishing touch.

He’s got four goals in his last two so is in absolutely blistering form for a side who are scoring tonnes at the moment. He also gets plenty of shots away (2.9 per 90 minutes with 2.1 on target) so given half a chance he’ll have a pop and, with those shooting boots firmly on, we’ll back Brobbey to Assist or Score Anytime.
