Saturday 12.30pm: Nottingham Forest v Liverpool
LAWRO: Forest have only won one game this season but they did get a good point during the week. Liverpool are not anywhere near back to their best but they’re starting to rise in terms of the table and level of performances. They could have won easier against West Ham but in the end they needed Alisson to save that penalty. I think they’ll win here for sure. Nottingham Forest 0-2 Liverpool.
RESULT: Forest 1-0 Liverpool
Saturday 3pm: Everton v Crystal Palace
LAWRO: Everton are not conceding many goals but they’re not scoring many either. I’ll go for them to win this though on the basis that they need to start picking up wins. They had a good run and have fallen off again but I think at home they’ll edge this. Everton 2-1 Crystal Palace.
RESULT: Everton 3-0 Palace
Saturday 3pm: Manchester City v Brighton
LAWRO: Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t won a game yet at Brighton though they did get an outstanding result against Liverpool. Who wants to play Manchester City just after they’ve been beaten? Brighton are good defensively and they’ll try and keep the ball but it’ll be a big win for City. Manchester City 3-0 Brighton.
RESULT: Man City 3-1 Brighton
Saturday 5.30pm: Chelsea v Manchester United
LAWRO: United won comfortably against Spurs and Chelsea drew at Brentford. I think Graham Potter’s slowly starting to get his feet under the table, he’s slowly learning what his best team is, he’s given everybody a go. It’s a very happy camp so I’ll go for a home win. The big question is will Cristiano Ronaldo make the bus! Chelsea 2-1 Manchester United.
RESULT: Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd
Sunday 2pm: Aston Villa v Brentford
LAWRO: I think Steven Gerrard’s sacking was inevitable, especially if you go to Fulham and get turned over and don’t look like a team. He’ll be better for the experience but, you know the way that football is, I just think there’ll be a reaction from Villa. It will be interesting to see if Tyrone Mings plays as he’s been costing them goals. Aston Villa 2-1 Brentford.
RESULT: Villa 4-0 Brentford
Sunday 2pm: Leeds v Fulham
LAWRO: Fulham had a great win during the week but Leeds worry me a little bit. I’m not convinced by Jesse Marsch. I think he talks a good game but they’ve just not really got that guile about them. Yes, they work hard, they stop you playing, but I don’t see too much creativity. That said, I’m not convinced about Fulham away from home as of yet. Leeds 2-1 Fulham.
RESULT: Leeds 2-3 Fulham
Sunday 2pm: Southampton v Arsenal
LAWRO: You know what, I’m going to go for Southampton to win this. Under pressure the other night at Bournemouth, Ralph Hasenhuttl got a result and I like him as a manager. I know this will make all the Gooners angry but they’ve had a fantastic run and eventually they’ll lose a game they’re not expecting to. The Saints sometimes come up with displays and you wonder, ‘Where’s that come from?’ I think this might be one of them. Southampton 2-1 Arsenal.
RESULT: Southampton 1-1 Arsenal
Sunday 2pm: Wolves v Leicester
LAWRO: This has got 1-1 draw written all over it. Wolves don’t score many as we know and it was a really good win for Leicester on Thursday, especially without James Maddison, but I’m not convinced about them at the moment. Wolves 1-1 Leicester.
RESULT: Wolves 0-4 Leicester
Sunday 4.30pm: Tottenham v Newcastle
LAWRO: Newcastle are on a good run and they’re not conceding many goals which is good but Spurs are Spurs. They didn’t really turn up at Old Trafford but I think they’ll win here and that inconsistency will drive Antonio Conte absolutely mad. Tottenham 2-0 Newcastle.
RESULT: Spurs 1-2 Newcastle
Monday 8pm: West Ham v Bournemouth
LAWRO: West Ham were decent at Anfield and obviously missed that penalty but Bournemouth were done at home by Southampton. It’s one of those where if you want to climb up the table, which West Ham do, it’s probably must win so I’ll go for David Moyes’ team to get the points. West Ham 2-0 Bournemouth.
RESULT: West Ham 2-0 Bournemouth
Lawro v Punter Challenge
So, you’ve heard what Mark Lawrenson has to say, but can this week’s Paddy Power punter take down our predictions guru with their Premier League predictions for this weekend?
If you don’t know what we’re talking about, where have you been? Every Premier League matchday we’re putting up at least £/€50 – more if there’s a rollover – to anyone who can outsmart Lawro in guessing the outcome of that week’s games.
And the £/€200 quadruple rollover was finally won during the week by Everton fan Pete which means we’re back to a £/€50 prize pot. This weekend it’s Spurs supporter Jeanette from Monmouthshire in sunny South Wales stepping up to the oche.
Here’s her Premier League predictions for the games between 22-24th October!
Nottingham Forest 0-1 Liverpool
Everton 2-1 Crystal Palace
Manchester City 4-0 Brighton
Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United
Aston Villa 2-1 Brentford
Leeds 2-2 Fulham
Southampton 0-1 Arsenal
Wolves 2-1 Leicester
Tottenham 2-1 Newcastle
West Ham 2-1 Bournemouth
Here’s quick reminder of those all-important rules: We’ll award one point for a correct result and three points for a correct score (max three points per game, there are no four-pointers here). May the best man or woman win!
RESULTS
Our mightly soccer predictor has been felled for the second week in a row, with our punter Jeanette taking the £50 prize with a narrow 7-6 victory. Both secured one correct score (West Ham 2-0 Bournemouth for Lawro, Chelsea 1-1 Man Utd for Jeanette), but our plucky punter picked one more correct result to ensure she took the top prize.
We’ll be back for more Premier League picks later this week with another £/€50 up for grabs.
