2pm: Aston Villa v Brentford – Draw

If you look at the match statistics, Aston Villa and Brentford have had pretty similar seasons so far. The problem for Steven Gerrard is that actual results take precedent for some reason, and he was sacked after Villa’s 3-0 loss at Fulham on Thursday.

It’s hard to know how the players will react. Tyrone Mings has been playing like he was trying to get Gerrard fired so his form might pick up at least. Anyway, there should be some sort of reaction and this looks the most likely draw in the Premier League on Sunday.

What’s more, the last four meetings at Villa Park have each ended all square too. That might suggest that a win for either side is overdue, but there’s usually little to separate these teams and that looks likely to continue with a draw here.

2pm: Leeds v Fulham – Leeds to Win

About 100 miles north of that scuffle we find Leeds taking on Fulham, in a clash which has favoured the Yorkshire outfit in recent years. Granted, they won the last meeting on penalties, but the Whites triumphed in 90 minutes in the three prior to that too.

The underlying numbers lean heavily towards the home side too. Leeds have won two and drawn two of their five home games, and though they lost to Arsenal, they had enough chances to get something from the game.

With Fulham having conceded by far the highest tally of expected goals in the 2022/23 Premier League, Jesse Marsch’s men will have plenty of opportunities. Leeds are in the worse form of the two sides but they can take a turn for the better with a win on Sunday.

2pm: Southampton v Arsenal – Arsenal to Win

TV: Sky Sports

On the south coast, Southampton host Arsenal and both teams had good midweeks. The Saints ended a run of five league games without a win by triumphing 1-0 at Bournemouth, while the Gunners beat PSV by the same score line to secure their passage into the knockout stage of the Europa League.

This fixture has alternated between home and away wins for the last five meetings at St Marys Stadium, with Southampton running out 1-0 winners in April. That omen suggests another three points for the league leaders and so do the underlying numbers.

The only real question remaining regards the margin of victory. Leaving aside their defeat at Old Trafford, Mikel Arteta’s side have won their other four away games without conceding. This game should play out the same way but as Arsenal were in action on Thursday it could be close. Take the straight away win.

2pm: Wolves v Leicester – Wolves to Win

The final fixture in our Bet Builder quartet is arguably the hardest to predict. Paddy favours Wolves, the numbers are with Leicester but the scheduling has been kinder to the former. They played on

Tuesday whereas Brendan’s boys were still in action past 10pm on Thursday. It was way past their bedtime and has left them with about 20 minutes to get ready for this match.

Even forecasting the goal totals isn’t easy as these sides are at opposite ends of those tables. Only four of Wolves’ 11 matches have paid out on over 2.5 goals this season and just three have seen both teams score. This is an erratic fixture at Molineux too, with a 2-1 and 4-3 home win sandwiching a pair of bore draws in the last four clashes in the west Midlands.

In short, anything could happen. The circumstances favour Wolves and while they can’t score, Leicester can’t defend, so we’ll take a home win.
