Ipswich to Win
After putting the troubles of last season behind them Derby were expected to be among the front runners in League One after a summer of impressive squad strengthening. However, they’re 9th and 10 points behind their hosts on Friday night, Ipswich, who are 2nd but have played two games more than The Rams.
WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!
It’s an interesting match up between two sides who would consider themselves historically to be mixing it in the division above at the very least. These days it’s two of the teams with the biggest budgets in the third tier, but who’s coming out on top at Portman Road on Friday?
Well, you have to say it will probably be the Tractor Boys. Derby have a middling away record while Ipswich are 6th in the home-form table. Up until their surprise 1-0 defeat by Lincoln last time out the hosts had only lost once this season, away at table-toppers Plymouth.
Derby have lost three of the their last six, winning the other three, though they have largely been facing teams in the bottom half of late. New Derby boss Paul Warne has had an okay start but that might be dented as they travel to one of the best sides in the league so we have to kick off with an Ipswich Win.
Both Teams To Score
There should be goals in this. Both sides are pretty effective going forward but not completely water-tight at the back. Over 2.5 Goals is a great play with that clicking in four of the home side’s last five and five of Derby’s last seven.
However, for Bet Builder purposes, Both Teams To Score is the play as it bumps up our price more than Overs. Ipswich’s blank last time out was their first misfire of the season – they’ve scored in 13 out of 14 matches.
Derby are rattling them in at the moment and they’ve scored at least two in four of their last six with only one shutout in that run. Both are conceding just under a goal a game but with that power going forward we should see Both Teams Scoring.
Over 10.5 Corners
An emphasis of their attacking prowess is the fact that these two rack up plenty of corners as well. The Tractor Boys are averaging 7.5 Corners per game and it’s 7.33 for The Rams.
We’ll be looking at something high in the over/under corner markets then but one thing to note is that neither give up too many with the hosts averaging under four and Derby under five per game.
Their combined for and against over the course of the season sits at 11.43 per match so I think we’ve got a good chance of seeing Over 10.5 Corners.
Lee Evans to Score Anytime
Picking a goal scorer in this game is tricky. Ipswich’s early season form was propelled by Conor Chaplin’s six goals this season, but he’s not netted now for six matches. Derby’s top scorer, James Collins, is still serving a suspension so will not feature on Friday night.
With the two top marksmen either out of form or out of the question I’ll get a little funky here and plump for Lee Evans to Score Anytime. He’s bagged three this season for Ipswich and – crucially – is on spot kicks.
