8pm: England Women v USA Women – England to Win

TV: ITV and STV

The weekend is upon us once again. But, just before you pack up and head off into the night, we’ve a Friday night 8pm acca to hopefully see you right. First up it’s England women v USA women at Wembley.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

A few years ago this would have looked like a hard-fought but ultimately convincing win for the USA. Not anymore. The USWNT have been a little underwhelming by their lofty standards while the Lionesses are still riding the wave of that Euro 2022 win.

USA are obviously still good and they’ve not done anything other than win for seemingly as long as humans have walked this planet. But the sparkle seems to have gone, ‘only’ beating Haiti 3-0, ‘only’ beating Colombia 2-0 and ‘only’ beating Costa Rica 3-0 in recent times. The Lionesses are at full force and the England Win might be the smart play here.

8pm: Lyon v Toulouse – Under 2.5 Goals

TV: BT Sport 4

We’re off to France next for a match between two of Ligue 1’s most out-of-form teams, Lyon and Toulouse. The hosts have lost four on the spin while their visitors have tasted defeat in three of their last five, winning the other two including last time out.

Toulouse are up to 12th while Lyon are down to 7th. The problem for the hosts is that they’ve had a nightmare run, playing four of the top five in their four most recent matches. More worrying is that they’ve lost them all.

They’ll relish a visit from one of the lesser lights then, but will they be able to arrest the slump? I think they might, but I’m loathe to tell anyone to back a side who have lost four in a row, especially at the price on offer. Instead we’ll take on Under 2.5 Goals.

Neither score many, though Toulouse did bag four last time out but that’s very much the exception rather than the rule. In the four games proceeding that match they had scored a grand total of two goals. Similarly, Lyon have scored two in their last four, firing a blank in their two most recent.

8pm: Osasuna v Valencia – Osasuna to Win

TV: LaLigaTV

Osasuna are having a cracking start to the season in La Liga and sit 6th after nine games and they tackle 9th-placed Valencia on Friday night. The hosts picked up a big point at Real Madrid last time out, though they do have a bizarre hex over Los Blancos.

I’m leaning towards the home side here. Valencia have a poor away record so far this term with just one point taken from their three trips away from Mestalla. They’ve not exactly played the leading lights in the league either.

The only time they’ve avoided defeat on the road was at 16th-placed Espanyol so they certainly need to improve on that. Osasuna have won three of their games on home soil this season and, with those two records standing in stark contrast, I think we can put a tick next to Osasuna to Win here.

8pm: QPR v Reading – Under 2.5 Goals

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football

We finish in the good old Championship on Friday night with Reading’s short trip up the motorway to QPR. The Royals were widely considered as big candidates for the drop in pre-season but Paul Ince and pals have confounded those expectations and sit in 3rd.

The R’s faded badly towards the end of last season but they’ve started well this time around and are one place and one point behind their visitors. It’s early in the season but there’s plenty to play for with the chance to go into the top two with everyone else set to play the day after.

This is tough to call as both are middling in the respective home and away tables as QPR tear it up on the road and Reading are rock-solid at home. With those roles reversed here I’ll swerve picking a winner and instead go for Under 2.5 Goals.

Reading have scored two goals in their five away games this season while The R’s have netted just five goals in their last four games at Loftus Road with three of them coming against Hull who were absolutely hopeless at the time. We’ll back these two stick to their recent trends and for Under 2.5 Goals in this one.
